Pseudodalatiids, a chondrichthyan family of uncertain phylogenetic affinities, have been hitherto exclusively known from the tooth-based species Pseudodalatias barnstonensis (Sykes, 1971), which has a stratigraphic range restricted to the Upper Triassic of Europe. Pseudodalatias presents a characteristic dentition which allows it to hold and cut its prey, showing a neoselachian design, but lacking the triple-layered enameloid microstructure of neoselachian teeth. The discovery of Pseudodalatias henarejensis nov. sp. in the Ladinian of Spain extends the stratigraphical range and the palaeogeographical distribution of this family. This new species also demonstrates that a cutting-clutching dentition evolved progressively in the family Pseudodalatidiidae. Pseudodalatiids are likely to represent stem-batoids or stem-neoselachians rather than aberrant hybodonts.

Summary: Enameloid in shark teeth is a complex structure resulting from ameloblast and odontoblast activity, forming subunits like Single Crystallite Enameloid (SCE) and Bundled Crystallite Enameloid (BCE). Research using Focused Ion Beam Nanotomography reveals a strong connection between SCE and BCE, aiding in understanding the evolution of tooth structure in sharks.

Summary: Sibert and Rubin claim to have identified a major extinction event of open-ocean sharks in the early Miocene, but other researchers argue that their interpretations are flawed due to the experimental design not accounting for certain variables.

An unusual shark assemblage from the Ladinian-Carnian interval of South China

Summary: The study presents a taxonomic analysis of a diverse chondrichthyan fauna from the Middle-Late Triassic interval in the Nimaigu locality in Guizhou Province, South China. The fauna is unique for its dominance of cladodont-like dentition sharks and lack of durophagous euselachians, distinguishing it from contemporaneous shark faunas worldwide. Transitional features between ancient sharks and modern sharks are documented, providing new insights into the replacement pattern of these species.

Summary: The study revised the systematic status of ancient neurocrania found in the Autun Basin and the Bourbon l'Archambault Basin in France using new methods, proposing a new systematic classification and revealing their hidden anatomy. Through comparative analysis, an evolutionary transition between chondrichthyan groups, particularly in the ethmo-orbital region, was identified.

A new Triodus shark species (Xenacanthidae, Xenacanthiformes) from the lowermost Permian of France and its paleobiogeographic implications

Summary: The study revealed the diversity of xenacanthiform fauna from the Autun Basin, with the discovery of a new species Triodus aeduorum sp. nov. sparking discussions on the validity of other Triodus species from the same locality. This highlights the endemism of Triodus species in each European Carboniferous-Permian basin.
