Summary: This study established a mouse model of iliac vein occlusion (IVO) to investigate the effects of melatonin on injured veins. The results showed that melatonin reduced venous permeability, suppressed inflammation in the surrounding tissues, improved endothelial function, and inhibited vascular leakage.

Summary: Extending iliac vein stents into the profunda femoris vein is a rare but useful procedure for salvage and symptom relief. Most limbs remained patent on long-term follow-up, but additional interventions were often required to maintain functionality.

Summary: This study found a high correlation between central venous pressure (CVP) and common carotid artery (CCA) diameter, suggesting that measurement of CCA diameter with ultrasound can be used as an alternative, low-cost and noninvasive method for detecting CVP.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of femoral endovenectomy with intraoperative endoluminal recanalization of iliac vein in patients with post-thrombotic iliofemoral venous obstruction. The results showed significant improvement in clinical signs and symptoms, as well as a low complication rate during the 12-month follow-up period.

Summary: This study reports the closure of iliac arteriovenous fistulas associated with a post-thrombotic iliac vein occlusion by iliac venous stent recanalization. The findings suggest that primary venous stent recanalization should be considered when dealing with post-thrombotic venous obstructions with arteriovenous fistulas related to aforementioned venous lesions.

Summary: This study used hyperspectral imaging to investigate the changes in liver during hepatectomies. The variations in StO(2)% and deoxy-Hb were found to be good markers of venous liver congestion.

Summary: Upper extremity venous thrombosis (UEVT) accounts for about 10% of venous thrombo-embolic disease, mainly due to central venous line usage. Factors associated with venous recanalization after UEVT include thrombosis associated with central venous catheter, UEVT limited to a venous segment, occlusive thrombosis, presence of a PICC Line, deep and distal thrombosis, and superficial thrombosis of the forearm. Occlusive thrombosis is associated with lack of UEVT recanalization.

Summary: Chronic venous disease of the lower extremities is a common condition in the United States. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of using the Baylis radiofrequency wire in recanalization procedures for patients who had previously failed endovascular intervention for chronic iliocaval venous occlusion. The results demonstrated successful recanalization in a significant proportion of cases, suggesting the potential of this technique for treating patients with failed previous interventions.

Summary: Unlike arterial disease, chronic venous disease (CVD) is not life-threatening or limb-threatening, but it can significantly impact patients' lifestyle and quality of life (QoL). This nonsystematic narrative review provides an overview of the latest information on managing CVD, specifically iliofemoral venous stenting for specific patient populations. It also discusses the philosophy of treating CVD, the phases of endovenous iliac stenting, and the use of intravascular ultrasound as the preferred diagnostic tool for iliofemoral venous stent placement.

Summary: This study presents a case of left external iliac vein stenosis caused by radiotherapy for cervical cancer, in which the iliac vein ruptured during the standard iliac vein stenting procedure. The emergency condition was resolved with the implantation of a covered stent and resuscitation with crystalloid and blood transfusion. The patient recovered without additional complications and was discharged eight days after endovascular therapy. At the six-month follow-up, the left lower limb edema had resolved completely, and the deep vein remained patent. This case raises concerns about the potential risk of treating radiation-induced iliac venous stenosis, which may differ from that of a patient without a history of radiation therapy.

Summary: This study assessed the outcomes of iliac vein stenting in patients of different races. The study found that Asian patients were younger and healthier, while White patients had the most severe symptoms. Black patients had the highest number of reinterventions, while Asian patients had the fewest. There were no differences in Venous Clinical Severity Score (VCSS) outcomes.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between gender and outcomes of iliac vein stenting (IVS) in patients with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) at one institution. The results showed that male patients had more severe clinical symptoms than female patients before surgery, but both groups showed similar improvement in symptoms after surgery.

Summary: In this study, 76% of women with pelvic pain secondary to combined iliac vein stenosis and ovarian vein reflux achieved complete symptom resolution with iliac vein stenting alone. Most women with a pelvic reservoir were asymptomatic and reported full symptom resolution after stenting alone. However, a relationship might exist between the presence of a pelvic reservoir and the persistence of symptoms in some women, suggesting that iliac vein stenting alone may be recommended for women with combined IVS and OVR, with staged ovarian vein embolization only for women with persistent symptoms.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of endovascular alone vs endovascular with additional endophlebectomy procedures in patients with chronic venous obstruction extending into the femoral confluence. The results showed similar patency rates between the two treatment groups, but the endovascular strategy had the benefit of fewer postoperative complications, shorter procedure duration, and shorter hospital stay.

Summary: This article provides an overview of the increasing use of venous stenting procedures in the management of chronic conditions affecting the deep venous system. Key topics discussed include diagnostic imaging, rationale and indications for stenting, outcomes of stenting, and technological advances such as dedicated venous stents and intravascular ultrasound examination. Deep venous stenting has become a key treatment option for obstructive venous disease, replacing the need for open surgical reconstruction in the past.
