Summary: This article presents a case of successful hepatic resection after percutaneous drainage failure in a patient with invasive Klebsiella-associated liver abscess. The case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and surgical treatment for patients with large multiloculated liver abscesses to prevent severe secondary complications.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed patients with pyogenic liver abscesses and found that double pigtail tube drainage treatment for multiloculated abscesses larger than 5 cm is safe and effective, showing shorter hospital stay, shorter catheter removal time, and faster reduction in C-reactive protein levels compared to single pigtail tube drainage.

Summary: Poor liquefaction of pyogenic liver abscesses is common, making drainage difficult. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the impact of poor liquefaction and subsequent drainage failure on clinical outcomes in patients with liver abscesses.

Summary: The role of microbiologic testing of purulence from perianal abscesses is disputed and the knowledge concerning bacteriology and bacterial resistances is very limited. This retrospective cohort study found that knowledge about individual bacteriology is relevant in cases of complex and severe local disease.

Summary: This study compares the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided needle aspiration and surgical drainage in the treatment of parotid abscesses. The results show that there is no significant difference in abscess volume and treatment frequency between the two methods, but ultrasound-guided needle aspiration may reduce the length of hospital stay. There were no cases of facial nerve injury in any of the patients, and the occurrence of postoperative bleeding was lower after needle aspiration.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of percutaneous endoscopic debridement and drainage for early epidural abscess in the lumbar region. Eight patients with early epidural abscess underwent lumbar intervertebral space debridement and drainage. The results showed that this treatment method effectively eliminated the abscess and improved the patients' pain and neurological function.

Summary: Tuberculosis is a global health challenge that primarily affects developing countries. Doctors worldwide need to be able to recognize the diverse clinical manifestations of the disease in order to provide appropriate treatment. This article discusses the less common presentation of isolated abscesses in the head and neck region caused by tuberculosis, which can lead to symptoms such as difficulty swallowing and voice changes. Characteristic imaging findings and potential surgical options are also explored.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnosis, predisposing factors, investigations, and management of retropharyngeal and parapharyngeal abscesses. A total of 30 patients with these abscesses were identified, and computed tomography was the most commonly used diagnostic tool. All patients received intravenous antibiotics, and surgical drainage was required in 17 cases. Early drainage and antimicrobial therapy are crucial for rapid recovery and prevention of complications.

Summary: PCD under imaging guidance is effective for the treatment of lung abscesses, with high treatment success rate and low complication rate. Malignancy-related abscesses and occurrence of major complications are significant predictors of treatment failure, while traversing normal lung parenchyma is the only significant risk factor for major complications.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the impact of culture results from percutaneously drained intra-abdominal abscesses on antimicrobial therapy. The findings showed that culture results only influenced the antimicrobial therapy decision for 8% of patients with abdominal abscesses, indicating that routine culturing of all abscesses is not recommended.

Summary: This study found that major comorbidities in cirrhotic patients were hypertension, diabetes, and depression, with common medications being proton pump inhibitors, beta-blockers, and opioids. Approximately 40% of patients with prior OHE experienced recurrence post-testing, predicted only by liver-related variables.
