Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) parameters and tumor contact length (TCL) in predicting muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). The results showed that DKI parameters performed better than conventional DWI in predicting MIBC. TCL and DKI parameters were independent risk factors of MIBC and could be used in combination with VI-RADS for predicting muscle invasion.

Summary: A novel approach combining infrared microscopy and machine learning was proposed to automatically predict the presence of cancer, invasiveness, and grade in urothelial bladder carcinoma (BC). The study found that the infrared imaging showed high sensitivity in identifying cancer, invasiveness, and grade, providing a potential ancillary platform for screening bladder biopsies.

Summary: This study aimed to validate the registered clinical tumour categories (cT-categories) in the Swedish National Register for Urinary Bladder Cancer (SNRUBC) for Norrland University Hospital, Sweden, from 2009 to 2020. The study found significant incorrect registration of cT-categories, with a major part of the misclassifications related to tumour-associated hydronephrosis (TAH) and tumour in bladder diverticulum (TIBD). The inclusion of these variables in SNRUBC is recommended to improve correct cT-classification.

Summary: In this study, a potential diagnostic biomarker for bladder cancer was identified and evaluated by analyzing cancer-specific proteins secreted in urinary extracellular vesicles (uEVs). An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed to quantify the uEV protein biomarker, leading to a non-invasive early clinical diagnosis of bladder cancer. The study also revealed the functional role of Ephrin type-A receptor 2 (EphA2) in bladder cancer progression.

Summary: Phosphorylation of pyruvate dehydrogenase by PDK4 inhibits glycolytic shift in cancer cells. The PDK4 inhibitor cryptotanshinone suppresses invasiveness and spheroid formation of bladder cancer cells by reducing the expression of N-cadherin and phosphorylation of beta-catenin. This study suggests that targeting PDK4 with cryptotanshinone may be a promising approach for inhibiting metastasis in bladder cancer.

Summary: This study found that DDX46 is highly expressed in human breast cancer cells and tissue samples, and is closely associated with high histological grade and lymph node metastasis. Downregulation of DDX46 inhibits the proliferation and invasiveness of breast cancer cells. Thus, DDX46 is considered to be an oncogenic factor in breast cancer and a potential therapeutic target.

Summary: The study found that key factors facilitating the passage of state T21 laws included the focus on e-cigarettes driving the increase in youth tobacco use, influential policy entrepreneurs or champions, and traction from T21 legislation passed in other states. Challenges included the influence of the tobacco industry, low legislative priority for the bill, and controversies over bill language. Despite an increase in e-cigarette rates and shifting attitudes from the tobacco industry, advocates faced difficulties in passing bills with ideal policy language.

Summary: This study examines the experiences of IUD users who self-remove their IUDs by analyzing internet forum postings. The results show that successful self-removal attempts are often quick, easy, and painless, and users who struggle with self-removal seek advice and learn from others' experiences on internet forums. This study has implications for developing better resources for individuals who desire self-removal of IUDs.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the preparedness for survivorship and evaluate the factors associated with it, including sociodemographic, medical, survivorship care transition experiences, practical and psychological factors. The findings revealed that many cancer survivors felt unprepared for survivorship and desired more information about follow-up tests and maintaining good health. Factors such as receiving chemotherapy, limited transition care planning, limited discussion of medical and psychosocial effects, high information needs, and financial hardship predicted low preparedness.

Summary: Outdoor day laborers, especially those of Hispanic descent, face increased risk of sunburn due to excessive UV radiation exposure. This study found that more than half of the male Hispanic day laborers experienced sunburn during the past summer and engaged in suboptimal sun protection behaviors. Factors such as lower education level, higher sensitivity to the sun, heat illness symptoms, barriers to wearing a wide-brimmed hat, and not wearing a wide-brimmed hat were associated with more sunburns.

Summary: This study is a randomized controlled trial that aims to evaluate the effects of "Empowered Survivor (ES)" versus a general web-based program for cancer survivors, "Springboard Beyond Cancer," on self-efficacy, preparedness for survivorship, and health-related quality of life (QOL). The study will recruit 600 survivors of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer and randomly assign them to the ES or Springboard Beyond Cancer condition. The study will evaluate the impact of ES versus Springboard Beyond Cancer on self-efficacy, preparedness, and health-related QOL, as well as the mediators and moderators of these effects.

Summary: The study aimed to assess adherence to health behavior guidelines among cancer survivors and identify characteristics associated with different adherence levels. Latent class analysis identified three classes: lower-risk, moderate-risk, and high-risk lifestyle. Lower-risk participants had the highest adherence to guidelines, while characteristics such as race, marital status, education level, and cancer stage were associated with moderate or high-risk adherence. These findings can inform interventions to promote health behavior adherence among higher risk cancer survivors.
