Summary: Causes of death during PCa survivorship vary by patient and tumor characteristics. Men with early-stage prostate cancer are 4-fold more likely to die of other causes, whereas those with advanced prostate cancer are at increased risk for several causes not related to prostate cancer in comparison with the general population. These findings can help guide physicians taking care of men with a diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Summary: This study characterized the global epidemiology of different types of metastatic prostate cancer and assessed the prevalence and prognostic impact of homologous recombination repair gene alterations in advanced disease setting. The results indicated that there is limited real-world evidence on the prevalence of prostate cancer and HRRm beyond mCRPC, with BRCA2 being one of the most common genes associated with HRRm in mCRPC.

Summary: This study investigated the outcomes of radical prostatectomy in Hispanic men with prostate cancer. The results showed that Hispanic men had similar rates of upgrading and adverse pathology outcomes as non-Hispanic white men. Race/ethnicity was not found to predict upgrading or worse oncologic outcomes after prostatectomy.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the impact of UroLift on prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) quality. The results showed that UroLift has a negative impact on MRI quality, particularly in the mid-basal region, obscuring a significant portion of the prostate on diffusion-weighted images.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine the mortality rates of prostate cancer and other causes in low and favorable intermediate-risk active surveillance patients. The study found that there was no significant difference in the 5-year mortality rates between low-risk and intermediate-risk patients, but within the intermediate-risk group, the subgroup with PSA 10-20 ng/ml had significantly higher cancer mortality rates.

Summary: A retrospective analysis was conducted to evaluate the performance of the Oncotype DX(R) Genomic Prostate Score(R) test in African American and Caucasian American men with surgically treated prostate cancer. The results showed that the assay was similarly predictive of outcomes in both racial groups, and improved risk stratification in men with newly diagnosed prostate cancer. Race was not found to be a significant predictor of adverse pathology or biochemical recurrence.

Summary: This population-based study examines the trends and variation in the use of primary radiotherapy for non-metastatic prostate cancer in the Netherlands from 2008 to 2019. The results show that EBRT use remained stable in low-risk patients, while increasing in intermediate and high-risk patients. The study also finds variation in treatment decisions based on patient and disease characteristics.

Summary: This study identified a set of androgen-responsive genes as potential tumor-associated antigens for prostate cancer. Transglutaminase 4 (Tgm4) was found to be highly expressed in prostate tumors from luminal epithelial cells and had low expression in most non-prostate tissues. TGM4's immunogenicity was confirmed, suggesting its potential as an immunotherapy target for prostate cancer.

Summary: This study aimed to identify trends, costs, and predictors in the use of different surgical procedures for post-radical prostatectomy incontinence (PPI). The results showed that male slings were the most common procedure, while the use of an artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) was the most expensive option. Patient's comorbidity history, radiation therapy, and neurological comorbidities were found to be predictors of incontinence surgery.

Summary: This study found that in patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, the experience of surgeons was inversely associated with the presence of detrusor muscle in the specimen when the perioperative surgical checklist was adequately implemented. However, the experience of surgeons was directly linked to a higher probability of persistent disease during re-transurethral resection of bladder tumor. No differences were noted in 5-year recurrence-free survival based on surgical experience.

Summary: This study found associations between renal cell carcinoma (RCC) subtype and patient demographics, comorbidity, and neighborhood socioeconomic status (nSES). The distribution of RCC subtypes varied significantly by race and ethnicity. Hypertension, diabetes, and kidney disease were associated with specific RCC subtypes. These findings suggest that targeted treatments or prevention efforts for RCC may have varying effects across different population subgroups.

Summary: Node-RADS represents a standardized comprehensive score based on size and configuration criteria for the radiologic assessment of lymph node invasion. In this study, Node-RADS scoring was applied for pelvic lymph-node evaluation in bladder cancer patients. The results indicate that Node-RADS score has moderate-to-high overall accuracy in identifying lymph node invasion, with the possibility of using different cut-off values based on specific clinical scenarios. However, further validation on larger cohorts is needed before drawing definitive conclusions.

Summary: This study evaluated whether docetaxel enhances TRAIL-mediated apoptosis in prostate cancer cells and investigated the underlying mechanism. The results showed that docetaxel can enhance TRAIL-induced apoptosis in prostate cancer cells by regulating the expression of EZH2 and DR4. Therefore, combining docetaxel or EZH2 inhibitors with TRAIL may be a promising approach to improve the efficacy of TRAIL in prostate cancer treatment.

Summary: Bladder cancer (BCa) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) have common risk factors and may share a biological pathway. A retrospective study showed a positive association between CVD and BCa incidence, with CVD being an independent protective factor for BCa. However, this effect was not confirmed for high-risk tumors.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the ultimate fate of incidental adrenal masses and found that in the US, surveillance is more common than surgical excision for adrenal incidentalomas. Surgery is mainly offered for functional or malignant disease and the choice of surgical approach varies by physician specialty. Minimally invasive surgery predicted lower rates of complications and shorter hospital stay.
