Summary: This study examines and compares the testicular salvage surgery rates for pediatric testicular torsion before and after the implementation of national quality metrics. The results show that the salvage surgery rate increased by 12.5% since the implementation of quality metrics. Patient factors such as age, race, distance to hospital, household income, insurance status, and use of ultrasound were similar between the two groups.

Summary: This nationwide epidemiological study on testicular torsion in Korea provides important insights into the incidence and risk factors associated with testicular loss. The study reveals that infants and adolescents are at the highest risk of testicular torsion, and emphasizes the need to educate males under 19 years of age about the seriousness of acute testicular pain.

Summary: Bilateral testicular torsion is a rare and serious condition where both testicles twist around their spermatic cords, leading to reduced blood flow and potential loss of the testicles. Treatment may involve surgical detorsion and fixation to prevent recurrence, and in severe cases, removal of damaged testicles. A systematic review of case reports was conducted in April 2023 to examine the presentation, clinical features, diagnostic process, and management of bilateral testicular torsion. Despite a limited number of cases meeting the criteria, this review discusses the symptoms, investigation, and outcome of bilateral testicular torsion.

Summary: Our study investigated for the first time the efficacy of amniotic fluid in preventing testicular IR damage, using amniomax (AMX). The results suggest that injection after detorsion is more favorable, showing significantly lower levels of oxidative stress and higher antioxidant levels compared to injection before detorsion. Further research is needed on the preventive effects of amniotic fluid injection for IR damage.

Summary: The study found that immediate contralateral orchiopexy (ICLO) at the time of scrotal exploration for testicular torsion suspicion was associated with a higher postoperative complication rate, especially in terms of hematoma and delayed wound healing. Therefore, ICLO should not be performed systematically.

Summary: Metastasis of gastric cancer to the testis or spermatic cord is rare, and simultaneous metastases to both even rarer. This report describes a 54-year-old male patient who had undergone radical gastrectomy for gastric adenocarcinoma more than two years before, presenting with palpable painful masses in the right scrotum and inguinal area.

Summary: This study investigates the long-term effects of surgery for testicular torsion (TT) on endocrine and exocrine testicular function, oxidative stress in semen, and erectile function. The results show that TT does not significantly affect these functions in the long term. Preservation of the testis is associated with a higher round cell count and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) compared to orchiectomy.

Summary: The retrospective study analyzed the role, performance, and safety of Doppler ultrasonography before surgery for patients with suspected testicular torsion, demonstrating that DUS is safe, feasible, and useful in selected cases of suspected TT, but surgery should not be delayed in cases with a strong clinical suspicion.
