Summary: In patients with T2DM, there were no significant differences in the risks of UTI, recurrent UTI, or sepsis between metformin users and nonusers. However, metformin use was associated with a lower risk of death due to UTI or sepsis than metformin nonuse.

Summary: This research aims to evaluate the risk factors and prevalence of urinary tract infections (UTIs) among people with diabetes mellitus (DM) in Saudi Arabia (KSA). The study found that UTIs are common in individuals with DM and are associated with gender. The findings of this study can provide important guidance for the health management of DM patients.

Summary: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common microbial infection that can range from simple bladder inflammation to severe cases of uroseptic shock. Both males and females may experience at least one symptomatic UTI in their lifetime. Early diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic therapy are crucial in preventing complicated UTI conditions like urosepsis.

Summary: This study found that the risk of developing ICI-T1DM is associated with the type of ICI therapy, patient age, and preexisting non-T1DM diabetes. The development of ICI-T1DM does not seem to significantly impact patient survival.

Summary: The prevalence of T2D in the Niena community was 7.5%, with rates of 8.6% for females and 5.6% for males. Age, family history of diabetes, hypertension, waist circumference, and fetal macrosomia were significantly associated with T2D. 61.3% of T2D subjects were unaware of their diabetic status before the study.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the prevalence of urinary tract infection (UTI) and its associated factors in Ethiopia. The study found a high prevalence of UTI (15.97%) and identified female gender, illiteracy, and prior UTI history as predictors of UTI. Screening and early treatment of UTIs should be a public health priority, especially for diabetic patients.

Summary: This study aimed to determine a simple screening schedule based on risk factors that optimizes early detection and testing frequency. The results showed that personalized screening can significantly reduce the time with undetected kidney disease and the frequency of urine testing, improving treatment outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of non-invasive tests for NAFLD, investigate the prevalence and severity of NAFLD, and search for factors contributing to NAFLD in people with T1D. The results showed that ultrasound and magnetic resonance spectroscopy were the most accurate non-invasive methods for diagnosing NAFLD. The prevalence of NAFLD was 16.2% and was associated with metabolic syndrome and BMI.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and risk factors of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in a Chinese population with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Qingpu, Shanghai. The prevalence of DR was 10.1%, with non-proliferative DR being more common. Higher fasting plasma glucose and glycated hemoglobinA1c were identified as known risk factors for DR, while no association was found between lipid indicators and DR. Additionally, higher levels of urea nitrogen and urinary albumin were associated with an increased risk of DR.

Summary: Sex, age, history of lumbar and abdominal pain, operation time, ULEU and UGLU are independent risk factors for urogenic sepsis in diabetic patients with UUTC. The occurrence group had notably higher risk scores than the nonoccurrence group. The risk score model showed good forecasting ability for concurrent urinary sepsis in patients with specificity of 73.07%, sensitivity of 79.36%, and Youden index of 52.44%.

Summary: The only risk factor for febrile urinary tract infection after retrograde intrarenal surgery for renal stones is preoperative pyuria. Other factors such as age, gender, BMI, comorbidities, preoperative bacteriuria, presence of hydronephrosis, renal stone characteristics, and operative time are not associated with postoperative infection. Careful management is necessary if preoperative urinalysis shows pyuria.

Summary: This study investigated the association between asymptomatic pyuria/bacteriuria at the initiation of SGLT2 inhibitor and urinary tract infection (UTI) risk in female patients with type 2 diabetes. The results showed that asymptomatic pyuria/bacteriuria are not risk factors for UTI in women with type 2 diabetes.

Summary: In a cohort study of 104 healthy premenopausal women with a history of recurrent urinary tract infection, asymptomatic bacteriuria was found to be uncommon and short-lived, lasting rarely more than 2 days. On the other hand, pyuria was common but not strongly associated with bacteriuria or symptoms, suggesting that screening or treating asymptomatic bacteriuria or pyuria in healthy, nonpregnant women may not be necessary.

Summary: This study examined the impact of antecedent sexual health factors on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in adolescent women. The findings indicated that the use of oral contraceptives, history of sexual intercourse, number of sexual partners, and condom use were associated with LUTS reported at age 19. However, these associations were attenuated after adjusting for condom use and number of sexual partners. The associations between sexual intercourse and number of sexual partners with LUTS were stronger among women with >= 3 sexual partners.
