Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed lung transplantation surgeries performed between 2007 and 2020, including organ donations following euthanasia. The results showed that using organs from euthanasia donors for lung transplantation is feasible and safe, with no significant differences in short-term and long-term outcomes compared to other types of organ donation.

Summary: Issues in the native lung could impact short-term outcomes and long-term survival after single lung transplantation (SLT), particularly in COPD patients. Late complications in the native lung were found to be associated with decreased survival in COPD patients compared to early complications.

Summary: The study found that obesity increases the risk of readmission in lung cancer patients, but has a negligible impact on lung cancer risk itself, instead reducing the risk of surgical complications. These results emphasize the importance of considering obesity as a significant factor in patient management and healthcare decision-making.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed lung transplant recipients at a pediatric center from 2014 to 2022 and found that three out of nineteen recipients (15%) developed atrial arrhythmia. The occurrence of atrial arrhythmia occurred 9-10 days after lung transplantation, and only recipients older than 12 years old experienced this complication. Atrial arrhythmia did not affect hospital stay duration or short-term mortality. All recipients with atrial arrhythmia were discharged on medication, which was discontinued at 6 months for those without recurrence.

Summary: Miliary lung metastasis is not a dominant indicator for outcome evaluation in patients with non-small cell lung cancer harboring EGFR mutation under TKI prescription. Other strong prognostic indicators include performance status, liver metastasis, EGFR type, and generation of TKI.

Summary: Identifying false-negative cases is crucial in lung cancer screening, as they may make up a significant proportion of all diagnosed lung cancers. Challenges in managing false-negative results include balancing cautious surveillance of lung nodules with minimizing overdiagnosis and unnecessary investigations.

Summary: This case report presents a 72-year-old female patient who had undergone renal transplant 11 years ago and developed progressively worsening headaches and confusion. Imaging revealed brain edema in the frontal and temporal lobes. Surgical biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of Polymorphic PTLD. Early diagnosis is crucial for patient survival with PTLD.

Summary: This study compared the risk of CMV infection in lung transplant recipients between two CMV-Ig prophylaxis regimens, and found that extending the CMV-Ig prophylaxis to one year did not provide additional clinical benefits.

Summary: This study evaluated the prevalence of malnutrition among lung transplantation candidates using the GLIM framework compared to ICD-10 criteria, finding a higher diagnosis rate with GLIM due to the inclusion of quantitative evaluation of fat-free mass depletion. Including body composition in malnutrition assessment is crucial for accurate diagnosis and highlights the utility of the GLIM framework.

Summary: Lung metastasis is a common and fatal complication of liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma. This study identified TNFR2 as a potent prognostic biomarker for predicting post-transplant lung metastasis in HCC patients, and proposed a nomogram to assist clinical decision-making.

Summary: The life expectancy of solid organ transplant recipients has improved, but they face an increased risk of cancer-related mortality. It is crucial to conduct cancer screening in this population for early detection and treatment. However, there is currently no widely accepted consensus on cancer screening protocols for transplant recipients, particularly regarding malignancies related to the transplanted organ.

Summary: This study evaluated pretransplant screening for Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, and Ureaplasma parvum in lung transplant recipients and found that donor-derived infections were the main issue. Preemptive therapy did not significantly impact the overall incidence of infection.

Summary: Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a spectrum of lymphoid conditions associated with Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) and immunosuppressive drugs. It remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality after heart transplantation. EBV is a key driver in many PTLD cases, with B-cell proliferation and impaired T-cell immune surveillance playing a crucial role. This article reviews the pathogenesis, recent advances, and potential therapeutic targets to reduce the burden of PTLD after heart transplantation.
