Summary: In this study, we evaluated the structural and functional GI parameters in diabetic patients and healthy controls using multi-segmental magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We observed differences in stomach, small bowel, and colon volumes, as well as an adynamic small bowel in patients with diabetes and GI symptoms. Associations between recorded parameters and perceived symptoms were also explored. The findings suggest that MRI can be a useful tool for studying diabetes-induced GI symptoms.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of endoscopic intrapyloric botulinum injection combined with pyloric balloon dilation in patients with delayed gastric emptying following distal esophagectomy. The results showed that this treatment method can significantly improve symptoms and the procedure is safe.

Summary: The first report of food allergy desensitization was published in 1908, predating the first description of a diagnostic test for food allergy by a few years. It has taken almost 100 years for food allergy management to evolve from passive avoidance to a more proactive approach involving prevention and treatment. In addition, the recognition of eosinophil gastrointestinal diseases, first described in the 1980s, has paralleled this progress. As The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice celebrates its 10th anniversary, the article reflects on the future development and potential advancements in the field over the next decade.

Summary: Rituximab (RTX) is a monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of various diseases, but some patients may develop persistent hypogammaglobulinemia and severe complications. This study reported two cases of young men aged 17 and 22 who experienced persistent hypogammaglobulinemia more than 7 and 10 years after RTX treatment.

Summary: The most central symptoms of adolescent depression, such as self-hatred, loneliness, sadness, and worthlessness, were found to be more strongly associated with life satisfaction. Symptoms that were less frequently endorsed showed weaker correlations with life satisfaction, contributing to a better understanding of adolescent depression.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors of short-term postoperative gastrointestinal symptoms (PGISs) in patients undergoing gastric cancer surgery. The main symptom after surgery was abdominal distention, and the risk factors for gastrointestinal symptoms included total gastrectomy and disturbed sleep. Timely intervention of symptoms may improve the quality of life of postgastrectomy patients.

Summary: The study found that patients meeting bipolar at-risk (BAR) criteria were more likely to transition to bipolar disorder (BD) over a decade after diagnosis compared to patients not meeting the criteria. This suggests that patients meeting BAR criteria may require longer-term monitoring and support.

Summary: Visitor attractions play a crucial role in the choice of tourist destinations and have significant economic impact, with visitor satisfaction identified as a key driver for success. Despite the high managerial relevance of factors influencing visitor satisfaction, there is currently a lack of comprehensive analytical summary of quantitative-empirical findings in this field.

Summary: This study shows that the El Nino Modoki phenomenon, which has lower forecast skill than the classical models, can actually be predicted more than 10 years in advance by tracing the information flow from solar activity 45 years ago to sea surface temperature. Using a multidimensional system based on this causal structure, accurate predictions of events 12 years in advance have been achieved through a causal AI approach.

Summary: Several studies have shown differences in oral and intestinal microbiota in patients with cirrhosis. This study analyzed the gastric mucosal microbiota of cirrhotic patients and controls, finding significantly lower H. pylori infection rates in cirrhotic patients. The non-H. pylori gastric microbiota showed heterogeneity and associations with clinical characteristics, with differences observed in composition and function among different clusters.

Summary: This study developed and validated a model to assess the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with chronic liver disease based on longitudinal analysis of serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) measurements. The model showed good performance in identifying patients who developed HCC, allowing for classification into high-risk and low-risk groups. This model could help in selecting patients for surveillance and improving detection of HCC.

Summary: The study evaluated opioid administration after robotic lobectomy (RL) compared with video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and open lobectomy in patients with lung cancer. Patients undergoing RL for primary lung cancer received opioids less frequently, and with lower total and average daily doses, compared with those undergoing VATS and open lobectomy. Studies are needed to determine whether early opioid dosage reductions translate into less chronic opioid use.

Summary: Endoscopy reports for patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease commonly lack grading for esophagitis or classification systems for columnar-lined esophagus. The size of hiatal hernias is often subjectively reported, with type specification being infrequent. Uncertainty about the presence of paraesophageal hernias may impede evaluation of acute symptoms. Standard biopsy protocols for Barrett's esophagus are rarely reported to be used, raising concerns about the quality of upper endoscopy.

Summary: This study aims to assess open conversion rates during minimally invasive surgery across common procedures using laparoscopic/thoracoscopic (LAP/VATS) and robotic-assisted (RAS) approaches. The results show that the conversion rate is lower with RAS compared to LAP/VATS, and conversion is associated with an increase in length of stay and cost.
