In this investigation, drug delivery characteristics of incorporating CS and anhydrous tri-polyphosphate (TPP) into SF in fabricating microparticles by a spray-dried technique were examined. Among various formulas, SF/CS microparticles at 10/4.0 (weight ratio) had the highest positive zeta potential (23.0 +/- 3.60 mV (n = 3)) while SF ones showed a negative zeta potential (-14.7 +/- 1.5 mV (n = 3)). The equilibrium swelling ratio of SF/CS (10/4.0) microparticles was 9.80 +/- 0.77 times of themselves in a dry state, which was higher than those of SF and SF/CS (10/4.0)-TPP (0.05%) ones (e.g., 5.50 +/- 0.58 and 7.43 +/- 1.43 times, respectively). The release period for a model hydrophilic drug, tetracycline.Hcl (Tc), from SF was two days which prolonged to four and ten days for SF/CS (10/4.0) and SF/CS (10/4.0)-TPP (0.05%) microparticles, respectively. Through this investigation, new microparticulate SF/CS (10/4.0)-TPP (0.05%) is highly promising for drug delivery applications. (C) 2010 Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers. Summary: The study evaluated the effects of composition of Ag-NP supported by silicate nanoplatelet on cytotoxicity and genotoxicity, finding that NSP effectively maintained the antimicrobial activity of Ag-NP. The high-surface area of NSP served as an excellent support for associating Ag-NP and reducing its toxicity in clinical applications.

Summary: This study investigated the use of Gel/HA-HAP and Gel/HA-HAP-SDF-1 composites in enhancing bone regeneration in a bone defect model. The results showed that both Gel/HA-HAP composite groups exhibited better bone generation compared to the control group, with the composite containing SDF-1 showing a trend of faster bone growth. This suggests that Gel/HA-HAP-SDF-1 composites may be a feasible material for filling traumatic bone defects.

Summary: This study aims to investigate an appropriate ZrO2-SiO2 composite recipe for ceramic 3D printing processes that can strike a balance between the mechanical properties and cell affinity needed in clinical applications. The S5Z5 composite, which consists of 50 wt% ZrO2, 35 wt% SiO2 and 15 wt% SiO2 sol, showed an appropriate compressive strength and bending strength of 82.56 MPa and 55.98 MPa, respectively, at a sintering temperature of 1300 degrees C. The shrinkage rate of the S5Z5 composite was approximately 5% when the sintering temperature was increased from 900 to 1500 degrees C.
