Summary: This study presents a new strategy to fabricate silk protein-based aerosols and silk fibers instantaneously in situ using a spray device, without the need for complicated and costly advanced manufacturing techniques. The key to success lies in the conformational transition of silk fibroin from random coil to beta-sheet before spraying, achieved by mixing silk and polyethylene glycol solutions in the spray device. The system utilizes green solvents and shear and elongational flow to provide a portable and user-friendly method for drug delivery carriers and surface coatings.

Summary: Natural polymers derived from animals and plants have been widely used in biomedical applications due to their similarities with biomacromolecules in the human body. Chitosan, an alkaline polysaccharide, has attracted much attention in tissue regeneration and drug delivery. By combining chitosan with silk fibroin, the mechanical properties and degradation behavior drawbacks of chitosan can be overcome. Additionally, other natural and synthetic biopolymers have also been incorporated to improve the performance of chitosan/silk fibroin composites.

Summary: Spray freeze-drying is a viable alternative to traditional spray drying for producing therapeutic dry microparticles, particularly suitable for pulmonary drug delivery. This study used ultrasonic spray freeze-drying to generate dry microparticles composed of mannitol or a combination of mannitol and salbutamol sulphate. The particle size, morphology, surface area, porosity, and crystallinity were influenced by solid concentration and feed flow rate. The aerodynamic properties for drug deposition were found to depend on solid concentration and feed flow rate.

Summary: The feasibility of using inhalable bosentan microparticles as an alternative treatment for PAH was validated in this study, showing promising results in vitro and in vivo. The microparticles exhibited superior aerodynamic performance and dissolution rate compared to raw bosentan hydrate, with no evidence of lung toxicity. The intratracheal administration of SDBM 1:1 significantly improved pharmacokinetic parameters, pulmonary arterial remodeling, and right ventricular hypertrophy in a rat model of PAH.

Summary: Oil-in-water emulsions were utilized to produce RA-loaded biopolymer-based delivery systems using spray-drying technology, with different rheological properties and droplet size distributions. The use of a spray-dryer at an inlet air temperature of 130 degrees C significantly improved RA encapsulation efficiency in modified chitosan-based microparticles. The release time of RA from microparticles varied depending on the biopolymers used, with xanthan and arabic gums showing faster release (48 and 94 min, respectively) and alginic acid sodium prolonging the release time to almost 8 hours.

Summary: In this study, thermosensitive hydroxybutyl chitosan (HBC)/silk fibroin (SF) hybrid hydrogels were prepared by physical interaction. The HBC/SF hybrids showed rapid sol-gel transition at physiological temperature and had the potential to be used as injectable tissue engineering scaffolds and soft tissue fillers. The introduction of SF component effectively reduced the cytotoxicity of HBC hydrogel.

Summary: This study investigated the use of Gel/HA-HAP and Gel/HA-HAP-SDF-1 composites in enhancing bone regeneration in a bone defect model. The results showed that both Gel/HA-HAP composite groups exhibited better bone generation compared to the control group, with the composite containing SDF-1 showing a trend of faster bone growth. This suggests that Gel/HA-HAP-SDF-1 composites may be a feasible material for filling traumatic bone defects.

Summary: This study aims to investigate an appropriate ZrO2-SiO2 composite recipe for ceramic 3D printing processes that can strike a balance between the mechanical properties and cell affinity needed in clinical applications. The S5Z5 composite, which consists of 50 wt% ZrO2, 35 wt% SiO2 and 15 wt% SiO2 sol, showed an appropriate compressive strength and bending strength of 82.56 MPa and 55.98 MPa, respectively, at a sintering temperature of 1300 degrees C. The shrinkage rate of the S5Z5 composite was approximately 5% when the sintering temperature was increased from 900 to 1500 degrees C.

Summary: In this study, a hybrid of AgNP/ZnONP/NSP was prepared by co-synthesizing zinc oxide nanoparticles and silver nanoparticles on a nano-silicate platelet. AgNP/ZnONP/NSP showed higher efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus compared to ZnONP/NSP and AgNP/NSP. In cell culture tests, 1/10/99 (weight ratio) of AgNP/ZnONP/NSP exhibited low cytotoxicity for mammalian cells.
