Summary: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is a major complication of diabetes mellitus and leads to foot ulceration and amputations. This study aims to reduce human intervention in diabetic foot testing by using a computer vision-based automated system. The first part of the study successfully developed a system for automatically identifying testing sites.

Summary: The study aimed to establish normative data for nipple-areola complex (NAC) sensibility in women with varying breast sizes, finding that sensation thresholds are influenced by age, BMI, breast size, suprasternal notch-to-nipple distance, among other factors. Hypertrophic breasts presented significantly higher sensation thresholds compared to normal-sized breasts.

Summary: Peripheral nerve injuries often result in severe motor impairment and permanent loss of function. Using polyethylene glycol (PEG) to facilitate nerve repair can significantly improve sensory and motor recovery, prevent nerve degeneration, and muscle atrophy. Clinical case studies and animal models suggest that PEG-fusion technologies could revolutionize the current practice of repairing nerve injuries.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of manual acupuncture on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in breast cancer patients. Results showed that acupuncture can alleviate neuropathic pain and improve touch perception thresholds, with the verum acupuncture group showing more improvement in touch perception thresholds and lower pain severity compared to the sham acupuncture group.

Summary: This study aimed to verify the reliability and validity of two sensory examinations, SWMT and TLT, in assessing upper extremity somatosensory impairment in chronic stroke patients. The results showed that both examinations demonstrated strong intra-rater and inter-rater agreements, making them suitable for clinical application, with significant correlations to SIAS sensory items.

Summary: The study showed that surgical experience has a significant impact on tactile sensibility for surgeons and non-surgeons. Thinner gloves exhibited similar tactile sensitivity to bare hands in both groups. Double-gloving had a negative impact on sensibility, while undersized gloves showed better sensitivity.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the fine sensation of palms and soles in field conditions for early detection of nerve function impairment in leprosy patients. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at seven hospitals in India, and sensory testing using filaments was performed on 374 newly diagnosed patients. Among them, 106 patients showed sensory nerve function impairment, with 84 having no fine or protective sensation, and 22 having a loss of fine touch sensation with intact protective sensation. The study suggests the need for further research to introduce more sensitive sensory testing at leprosy centers.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the sensorimotor functions of breast cancer patients before, during, and after chemotherapy. The results showed a decrease in handgrip strength and fine motor function, as well as an increase in fatigue during chemotherapy. The Semmes Weinstein Monofilament Test (SWMT) was found to be a useful assessment tool for monitoring changes in cutaneous sensation during chemotherapy.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of various finger nerve surgeries and identified factors such as age, gap size, and injury type that may affect recovery. No nerve repair method has absolute advantages, and comprehensive consideration of various factors is necessary when choosing a surgical approach for finger nerve injury repair.

Summary: This article reviews the methods and treatments for preventing end neuroma formation after peripheral nerve injury. Currently, there are various approaches to inhibit the regenerative response or provide a conduit for organized regrowth, but the results are mixed. By reviewing historical treatments and current experimental treatments, it provides a concise and comprehensive resource for current and future therapies aimed at preventing neuroma formation.

Summary: Appropriate animal models are crucial for studying the biology and physiology of neurons and other cells under normal and stress conditions. Understanding the activation of genes and factors in nerve regeneration is important for conditions like nerve injuries and neuropathy. Advanced technology and bioinformatics are necessary for a comprehensive understanding of different cell types and their behavior in neuropathies.
