Summary: This study found that certain cancer therapies in childhood cancer survivors can accelerate epigenetic age and this acceleration is associated with chronic health conditions, early-onset obesity, and late mortality. Evaluating epigenetic age acceleration is important for identifying survivors at risk and understanding the long-term health effects of cancer treatments.

Summary: This study evaluated the smoking intensity and its relationship with factors such as age of smoking onset in Iranian adult male smokers. The results showed that individuals who started smoking at a younger age were more likely to become heavy smokers. Factors such as unemployment, retirement, and exposure to secondhand smoke at home increased the risk of heavy smoking, while smokers with higher income had a lower tendency to heavy smoking.

Summary: This study aimed to explore interest in fertility status assessment (FSA) among young adult survivors of childhood cancer and identify associated factors. The results indicated that cancer survivors are interested in FSA, particularly those who have had repeated fertility-focused discussions during survivorship care and who report worry about infertility.

Summary: Young adult survivors of childhood cancer are less likely to be physically active compared to non-cancer affected controls, and mental health may contribute to physical activity in this population. Positive mental health characteristics are more likely to facilitate or result from physical activity, while negative mental health characteristics are not associated with physical activity.

Summary: In this study, female childhood cancer survivors showed higher p16(INK4a) expression, hs-CRP concentration, and lower peak VO2 compared to males. In females, hs-CRP concentration and p16(INK4a) expression were inversely associated with peak exercise capacity, with a significant interaction between p16(INK4a) expression and body fat. In males, p16(INK4a) expression and body fat were inversely associated with peak exercise capacity.

Summary: Adult survivors of childhood cancer have poor adherence to nutrition guidelines and inadequate intake of certain vitamins and minerals. The use of dietary supplements is common among these survivors. However, it is associated with both inadequate and excessive nutrient intake, and positively impacts certain aspects of quality of life.

Summary: This study developed and validated prediction models for a decline in health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among adult survivors of childhood cancer. The study found that chronic health conditions, smoking, and psychological factors were associated with a decline in HRQOL. These findings suggest the need for interventions to prevent poor HRQOL in this population.

Summary: Limited research has focused on the age at which adolescents initiate cigarette smoking globally. This study found that around 80% of adolescent smoking experiencers aged 13-15 began smoking before the age of 13, and in nearly three quarters of the surveyed countries, the average age of cigarette smoking initiation decreased or remained stable.

Summary: This study examined the support needs and associated factors of young adult childhood cancer survivors (YACCS) in the Netherlands. The results showed that YACCS had the strongest need for concrete information in the domains of lifestyle, fertility, and physical consequences of childhood cancer. The associated factors were mainly socioeconomic and psychosocial in nature. The study suggests that psychosocial care should be integrated into survivorship care for YACCS.

Summary: Considering the rapid increase in the number of cancer survivors, it is important to focus on managing their health behaviors. This study examined the effects of health behavior changes on mortality among Korean cancer survivors and developed a validated nomogram. The results showed that cancer survivors with unhealthy behaviors had a higher risk of mortality, emphasizing the importance of managing their health behaviors. The validated nomogram could provide valuable insights for official policies and healthcare practices to benefit cancer survivors.

Summary: This study examined the awareness and prevalence of skin cancer screening among young adult childhood cancer survivors, and found that adherence to recommended screening for skin cancer was low in this at risk population, especially among those exposed to radiotherapy. Therefore, effective strategies need to be developed to improve skin cancer screening rates in this high-risk population.

Summary: This study found that patients with D-EIMs have a 6-fold increased risk of a later diagnosis of IBD, while patients with psoriasis had a 34% increased risk of a subsequent IBD diagnosis compared to the matched control group. Younger age, smoking, low body mass index, anemia, and lower gastrointestinal symptoms were associated with an increased risk of diagnosis of IBD within 3 years in patients with EN.

Summary: Exposure to cranial radiotherapy is associated with an increased risk of subsequent CNS neoplasms among childhood, adolescent, and young adult (CAYA) cancer survivors. Surveillance for subsequent neoplasms is important, but there is currently insufficient evidence to establish whether early detection reduces morbidity and mortality. More research is needed to inform survivorship care.

Summary: Breast cancer is a well-known late adverse effect in female childhood cancer survivors (CCSs), and there is limited information on subsequent male breast cancer (SMBC). This study summarized the existing evidence on SMBC after childhood cancer and found an increased risk of SMBC among male CCSs. However, the absolute risk of SMBC in male CCSs is low compared to the general male population.

Summary: Radiation and exposure to alkylating agents increase the risk of bone cancer among survivors of childhood cancer. This study demonstrates, for the first time, that the risk of bone cancer is increased 5-10 fold after exposure of bone tissue to cumulative radiation doses of 1-9 Gy. Alkylating agents exceeding 10,000 mg/m(2), particularly procarbazine, ifosfamide, and cyclophosphamide, increase the risk 7-8 fold. These findings should be used to develop/update clinical follow-up guidelines and survivorship care plans.

Summary: Two studies on childhood cancer survivors found that survivors in the United States have a lower risk of late mortality, but the risk increases after 40 years from diagnosis, mainly due to subsequent malignant neoplasms, cardiac and respiratory diseases, and other health-related causes. The recent slightly higher mortality rate among US survivors compared to those in Britain suggests that the US may have adopted more intensive treatment regimens.

Summary: The risk of further surgery at the anastomosis following right hemicolectomy for Crohn's disease is relatively common, with only 22% of patients undergoing recommended post-surgical colonoscopy within suggested timeframes. Increased colonoscopy may lead to a reduced need for surgery if early optimization of medical therapy is undertaken for recurrence.
