Hydrogels are being prepared for use in a wide variety of applications ranging from medicines, tissue engineering, superalpsorbents, controlled release of drugs & fertilizers, and oil absorbers etc. This review highlights hydrogel structure and their different classifications under various heads. It also discusses various routes to obtain tailormade hydrogels by polymerizing a combination of two or more monomers with proper type of crosslinks in order to obtain desired properties in the resulting hydrogel. Novel hydrogel configurations like microgels and nanogels, slide ring gels, double network hydrogels and nanocomposite gels have also been reviewed.

Chlorambucil-Loaded Graphene-Oxide-Based Nano-Vesicles for Cancer Therapy

Surabhi Kumari, Anuj Nehra, Kshitij Gupta, Anu Puri, Vinay Kumar, Krishna Pal Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Ashutosh Sharma

Summary: The authors developed biocompatible nano-vesicles using graphene oxide (GO) for the targeted release of chlorambucil (CHL) drugs in cancer cells. GO sheets were functionalized with folic acid (FA) molecules to improve controlled release and loading efficiency of CHL. The drug was loaded onto the GO surface through pi-pi stacking and hydrophobic interactions. In vitro release studies showed a pH-dependent release, with faster release at lower pH.

Modern implants in total knee arthroplasty are more patellofemoral joint friendly compared to their traditional design: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Arghya Kundu Choudhury, Kshitij Gupta, Sajid Ansari, Balgovind S. Raja, Souvik Paul, Roop Bhushan Kalia

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found that the Attune knee system showed significant improvement in KSS scores and had favorable outcomes in terms of anterior knee pain and patellofemoral crepitus compared to the traditional PFC Sigma knee design. However, there were no significant differences in other outcome measures such as OKS and WOMAC scores, knee range of motion, patient satisfaction, and radiological outcomes.

Quantification of Volume Mismatch of Acetabulum and Femoral Head in Developmental Dysplasia of Hip

Sitanshu Barik, Vivek Singh, Udit Chauhan, Souvik Paul, Kshitij Gupta, Sunny Chaudhary, Shobha S. Arora

Summary: The study aimed to compare and quantify the volume mismatch between the affected acetabulum and femoral head with the normal hip in patients with idiopathic developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The results showed significant differences in acetabular index, acetabular volume, femoral head volume, and acetabular anterior sectoral angle between the affected and normal hips. The acetabulum was found to be significantly smaller on the affected side, and there was a negative correlation between the posterior acetabular sectoral angle and acetabular volume. These findings have important implications for the diagnosis and treatment of late-presenting DDH.

Assessment of thickness of in vivo autograft tendons around the knee and its correlation with anthropometric data, thickness of patella and anterior cruciate ligament tibial foot print diameter

Balgovind S. Raja, Kshitij Gupta, V Abdusamad, Sukhmin Singh, Subhajit Maji

Summary: The study measured in-vivo thickness of available autograft options around the knee using MRI, finding moderate correlation between height and patellar thickness with semitendinosus tendon and patellar tendon thickness. Weak correlation was observed between other anthropometric variables and tendon thickness. MRI assessment of tendon sizes is a reliable method that can aid in preoperative planning and identifying patients at risk of having smaller tendons.
