Summary: In this study, molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to investigate the binding of GTX and GSH to RmGST. It was found that GSH binds tighter and sits rigidly inside the G-site, while GTX occupies both active sites.

Summary: In this study, a tau-like glutathione transferase family gene named GmGSTU23 was identified in soybean, which showed a concentration-time-specific expression pattern in response to salt stress. Transgenic lines with GmGSTU23 displayed enhanced salt tolerance, root length, and fresh weight compared to the wild type. Changes in glutathione pools and associated enzyme activity were observed, indicating that GmGSTU23 enhances the activity of glutathione transferase to scavenge reactive oxygen species and glutathione, thereby conferring enhanced tolerance to salt stress in plants.

Summary: Allicin is a volatile organic sulfur compound produced as a defense substance in garlic when tissues are damaged, exhibiting membrane permeability and antimicrobial activity. It can induce apoptosis or necrosis at high doses in eukaryotes, while lower amounts can modulate protein activity and affect cellular signaling. This review summarizes the specific effects of allicin on bacterial and eukaryotic cells.

Summary: ZmGST26 was found to be downregulated in maize under drought stress. Overexpression of ZmGST26 in Arabidopsis resulted in increased sensitivity to drought stress and ABA, as well as inhibited ABA-mediated stomatal closure. ZmGST26 overexpression decreased the resistance of Arabidopsis to drought stress and led to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species.

Summary: This research investigates the relationship between glutathione metabolism parameters and immunohistochemical characteristics of glial tumors. It finds that the level of nuclear protein Ki67 and the presence of IDH1 mutation have the most pronounced relationship with glutathione metabolism.

Summary: Curzerene inhibits the progression of glioma by suppressing the expression of GSTA4 and matrix metalloproteinase 9, and inhibiting the activation of the mTOR pathway. It also induces apoptosis and reduces invasion and migration of glioma cells. In vivo studies have shown that Curzerene significantly inhibits tumor growth and prolongs survival time.

Summary: GSTs are versatile proteins that play important roles in detoxification and cellular nitric oxide metabolism. They have the ability to convert organic nitrates into nitric oxide, thereby regulating vasodilation. GSTs are also considered suitable targets for pharmaceutical development, particularly in the field of anti-cancer drugs.

Summary: Cancer is a prevalent health issue that has been studied extensively in the past three decades. This study focused on the purification of GST and GR enzymes, which play important roles in cellular detoxification and protection against oxidative stress. The effects of fluorophenylthiourea derivatives on these enzymes were investigated, and 1-(2,6-difluorophenyl)thiourea showed the most promising inhibition effect. Molecular docking studies were conducted to explain the relationship between the inhibitors and the 3D structures of GST and GR.

Summary: Some members of Acanthamoeba are facultative pathogens that can infect the cornea, causing Acanthamoeba keratitis. During encystation, there is an upregulation of glutathione S-transferase (GST) genes, which play a role in maintaining redox balance. Inhibiting GST with ethacrynic acid decreases cell viability by 70%. Targeting GST and associated processes could be a potential treatment strategy to reduce relapses of Acanthamoeba infection.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the key glutathione S-transferase (GST) isozymes involved in the detoxification of Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in ducks' primary hepatocytes. The researchers isolated and cloned the full-length cDNA encoding 10 GST isozymes from ducks' liver. The results showed that overexpression of GST and GST3 mitigated the toxic effects of AFB1 and increased the detoxified product of AFB1 in ducks' primary hepatocytes.

Summary: This study provides direct evidence that GSTU20 and GSTF11 are critically involved in aliphatic GSL biosynthesis, revealing their non-redundant but partially overlapping roles in GSL metabolism, with GSTU20 playing a more important role than GSTF11.

Summary: Anthocyanins, the important chromogenic substances responsible for the coloration of flowers, are transported and accumulated predominantly by PsGSTF3 gene. Silencing of PsGSTF3 gene leads to decreased anthocyanin accumulation and affects structural genes in the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway. Heterologous overexpression of PsGSTF3 enhances anthocyanin accumulation.

Summary: This study reports a transfection-positive cell sorting system using Glutathione S-transferase as a plasmid marker, which allows the fusion protein to be displayed on the cell surface and isolates positive cells using magnetic beads. The system works efficiently in both adherent and suspension cells, significantly enhancing gene alteration through increased knockdown efficiency and overexpression level.

Summary: The study demonstrated that GSTM5 acts as a tumor suppressor in bladder cancer cells without significantly affecting chemoresistance to cisplatin and mitomycin C, and the cellular levels of GSH are key mechanisms underlying the anticancer effect of GSTM5. Low gene expression and high DNA methylation levels of GSTM5 may serve as tumor markers for bladder cancer.
