Summary: A new series of unsymmetrical 1,4-dihydropyridines were synthesized by employing ceric ammonium nitrate as a catalyst in the one-pot four-component Hantzsch reaction. The structure of the compound 3-allyl-5-ethyl-4(3-fluorophenyl)-1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-4-phenylpyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate (5f) was confirmed by single crystal XRD analysis. The calculated hyperpolarisability and NBO analysis indicated potential for further studies on the material's NLO properties. The antimicrobial studies showed that compounds 5d and 5i exhibited promising antimicrobial properties. Molecular docking studies were employed to identify the primary binding site of piperidine to receptors.

Summary: A metal, solvent and oxidant free method has been developed for the synthesis of quinazolin-4(3H)-ones under microwave irradiation. Using the same catalyst, 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones were also synthesized in water as a green and sustainable solvent. These protocols offer a simplistic and rapid approach for assembling diverse structural quinazolinones.

Summary: In this study, two novel oxadiazole derivatives were synthesized and their relationship with solvent effects was investigated using experimental and theoretical analyses. The linear solvation energy relationships showed better correlation with the vibrational frequencies of the compounds than other empirical solvent parameters. Additionally, the quadratic equation provided more accurate predictions for the vibrational frequency locations compared to the Swain and linear solvation energy relationships equations.

Summary: This study synthesized four new series of methyl ethyl ester substituted 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives and evaluated their pharmacological effects for the treatment of hypertension. The results showed that unsymmetrical ester substitutions and the type and location of substituents on the 4-aryl ring affected the calcium channel blocking activity and structure-activity relationship of these dihydropyridine derivatives.

Summary: The Hantzsch synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives using a novel ZnO/ZrO2 catalyst was successfully achieved, with the catalyst showing enhanced activity due to tetragonal phase, more acidic sites, and high surface area. The products were obtained in good to excellent yields in a short time under solvent-free conditions, minimizing waste disposal issues and energy dissipation. The catalyst demonstrated recyclability without significant loss in activity.

Summary: A Cu-catalyzed oxidative [1+2+1+2] cascade cyclization for the synthesis of 1,4-DHPs was developed using benzylamines as the C4 source. A wide range of N,N-dimethyl enaminones and benzylamines were smoothly employed to provide diverse 1,4-DHPs with high efficiency. This method utilizes a one-pot cascade C(sp(3))-H bond functionalization/C(sp(3))-N cleavage/cyclization strategy to simultaneously form two C(sp(3))-C(sp(2)) bonds, two C(sp(2))-N bonds, and a 1,4-DHP ring.
