A method to easily increase the catalytic efficiency of enzymatic electrodes based on redox hydrogel is described. Ketjen Black (KB) is used as carbon electrode material for the construction of enzymatic anodes made of osmium based redox hydrogel and glucose oxidase. Due to its porous structure, the use of KB permits to increase the catalytic efficiency of glucose oxidation by 2.9 compared to glassy carbon (GC) electrode where a thick layer is obtained for the same amount of electroactive material. In physiological Conditions, the electrodes based on KB displays 20% more current than GC electrode and an onset potential for glucose oxidation 60 mV lower. (C) 2013 The Electrochemical Society.
