Summary: This study provides a comprehensive overview of different strategies for combining droplet-based sample handling and preparation with electrophoretic separation. It focuses on three principal interfacing strategies, including droplets in immiscible phases, digital microfluidics with electrowetting-on-dielectric principle, and inkjet droplet generation. Different instrumental developments, pros and cons of designs, and application demonstrations of droplet-interfaced electrokinetic strategies are discussed.

Summary: In this study, a multi-input capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detector (MICD)-D-4 was proposed with high sensitivity, and further improved by combining it with differential detection to form (DFMICD)-D-4. The new detector showed improved performance compared to traditional single-input and double-input detectors, with a higher response-to-baseline ratio and a low limit of detection (0.7 nM). It can be applied to the detection of low-conductivity solutions and total dissolved solids (TDS) analysis, demonstrating its versatility and superiority over standard conductivity meters.

Summary: To decentralize health care, the development of point-of-care (PoC) assays has gained attention. The lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) is seen as a promising bioanalytical method due to its low cost and single-step detection process. However, its limited sensitivity and inability to detect disease biomarkers at clinically relevant levels have limited its application. This review explores the potential of merging different electrokinetic phenomena into paper-based assays to enhance their analytical performance.

Summary: The intake of polyphenol-rich beverages is associated with metabolic status, with individuals consuming more of these beverages less likely to have hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and dyslipidemia, particularly with a significant association with hypertension. Current scientific evidence suggests that such beverages may have a positive impact on cardio-metabolic risk factors.

Summary: A rapid and simple method utilizing capillary electrophoresis and chemiluminescence detection has been developed for the determination of phenolic acids in botanical drugs. Under optimized conditions, the analytes can be well separated within 7 minutes, with detection limits ranging from 35-58 mu g/mL and quantification limits ranging from 117-193 mu g/mL. This method has been successfully applied for the quantitative determination of phenolic acids in Lonicera japonica flos and Rhizoma Chuanxiong.
