Summary: Vitamin D is essential for bone health and preventing metabolic bone disorders. Vitamin D deficiency is common in Italy and supplementation with vitamin D2 or D3 is often recommended. However, studies on vitamin D intake in the Italian population are not well-designed and incomplete. This study aimed to validate a food questionnaire for assessing dietary vitamin D intake in Italians and found a low intake of vitamin D, which contributes to hypovitaminosis D.

Summary: Vitamin D and its adequate status are important for human health. A simple food frequency questionnaire was developed to assess vitamin D intake, showing acceptable validity and reproducibility. This tool helps in the effective assessment of individual vitamin D intake and supports evidence-based policy-making decisions.

Summary: Changing dietary choices to lower-carbon options can reduce environmental harm and improve health, as shown by this study that identifies simple dietary substitutions that can reduce carbon emissions and improve overall dietary quality. This highlights the potential of small changes in diet to address the impact on climate and health.

Summary: This study validates the Dietary Quality Score (DQS) and explores its association with risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases. The results show that a high DQS, indicating healthy dietary habits, is significantly linked to higher intake of fruits, vegetables, fish, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, and lower intake of saturated fat. Additionally, a high DQS is associated with lower levels of LDL cholesterol, hs-CRP, WC, visceral fat, total fat mass, and higher levels of HDL cholesterol.

Summary: The study found that college freshmen had comparable energy, carbohydrate, fat, and protein intakes to the national sample, but reported a higher density intake of most micronutrients. Differences in intake, mode of assessment, and reactivity between the two samples may explain the detected variations. Single college studies can be valuable in understanding nutrition in young adults when properly contextualized.

Summary: The study monitored the levels of perchlorate in 330 foods from Wuhan, evaluating dietary exposure and risk assessment. Results showed that vegetables had the highest perchlorate levels, while meat had the lowest, yet dietary exposure to perchlorate via food consumption was deemed safe for the people of Wuhan.

Summary: Cadmium (Cd) poses risks to soil and food security due to its high transfer rate from soil to plants, non-biodegradability, and persistence. Identifying regions with high soil Cd concentration and high dietary Cd intake is crucial for public health. This study assessed the health risk of dietary Cd intake using three approaches and found a significant correlation between vegetable consumption and dietary Cd intake. Certain provinces showed a higher vulnerability to Cd intake due to their higher consumption rates. Weighted rankings were used to determine risk management priorities, and effective measures should be taken in provinces with high risk levels.

Summary: This study validates a single-item measure of loneliness and its subjective experience, which can be used in large-scale population surveys. The results show that 23.4% of the participants reported some degree of loneliness. The study concludes that loneliness is frequently reported in the general population and the single-item measure is suitable for brief screening in population-based assessments.

Summary: Accurate dietary analysis using traditional methods is challenging and time-consuming. This study evaluated the validity of a smartphone app and food database compared with a professional nutritional counselling platform. The results showed that the app and database provided a quicker and less complex analysis of food composition and timing. Good agreement was found for energy and macronutrient intakes, while some micronutrients and fat intake data were unreliable. The app showed promise for assessing compliance in chrononutritional studies.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and evaluate the Vietnamese Children's Short Dietary Questionnaire (VCSDQ) for assessing food group intakes and dietary practices among school-aged children in urban Vietnam. The questionnaire showed good reproducibility but low relative validity. However, it demonstrated good direct validity in core and non-core food groups, and could be used to classify daily intakes of fruits and vegetables.
