Summary: Skin and soft tissue infections are common conditions that often require medical intervention. With the rise of antibiotic resistance, antiseptic agents are being considered as potential alternatives for prevention and treatment, with traditional formulations still having room for further development.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study compared peri- and post-operative outcomes of hyperthyroid patients with controlled versus uncontrolled thyroid function at the time of thyroidectomy. The study found that controlled patients had shorter operative times and less intraoperative bleeding, and both groups had similar rates of postoperative complications. Therefore, thyroidectomy in actively thyrotoxic patients is safe.

Summary: The study suggests that by adjusting power parameters, electrosurgery systems can achieve similar coagulum volume effects as temperature-controlled radiofrequency systems, with significantly less time to achieve equivalent lesion size in electrosurgery systems compared to temperature-controlled systems.

Summary: Hydroquinone is an effective drug for treating hyperpigmentary disorders but often causes skin irritation. This study found that hydroquinone can activate mast cells via MRGPRX2, leading to skin irritant reaction. Mast cells play an important role in the development of this reaction.

Summary: In this study, novel environmentally-friendly oil-in-water nanoemulsions were developed to enhance the transdermal delivery of bioretinol bakuchiol obtained from powdered Psoralea corylifolia seeds via a sustainable process. Stabilized by green hybrid ionic surfactants, the formulations underwent optimization studies and physicochemical analysis to identify the most promising candidates. Colloidal characterization revealed a stable nanocarrier for transdermal biological investigation, showing improved permeability and antiaging potential. In vitro, topical experiments on human skin cell lines and further ex vivo and in vivo tests confirmed the excellent biocompatibility of the nanoemulsions.

Summary: This study aims to find a method to reduce pain in children during intravenous cannulation by using dissolvable maltose microneedles to enhance the absorption of EMLA(R). A randomized trial will compare the effects of four interventions on pain scores and skin conductance algesimeter index, with data collected using VAS rulers and a PainMonitor (TM) machine.

Summary: In this study, novel fatty acid vesicles loaded with magnolol were prepared using 10-hydroxy decanoic acid (HDA) and oleic acid (OA) for skin cancer treatment. The performance of different formulations was statistically evaluated in terms of particle size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, and entrapment efficiency. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that HDA-based vesicles exhibited better drug permeation and skin deposition, and showed superior efficacy in attenuating DMBA-induced skin cancer.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different preoperative information techniques on patients' anxiety levels before and after third molar tooth extraction. The findings indicate that providing information via visual or written materials can significantly reduce the anxiety associated with oral and maxillofacial surgery. Therefore, clinicians should preferentially use written methods to control patients' anxiety before impacted third molar surgery.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of adding preoperative nasal decontamination on the rate of surgical site infections (SSI) in adult thoracolumbar spinal surgeries. The results showed that routine nasal antiseptic swab did not significantly affect the overall rate of SSI in these surgeries.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of ASC-CM on photoaging skin by assessing changes in TEWL and skin thickness. The results showed a significant difference in skin thickness post-treatment, but not in TEWL. Longer studies are needed to further understand the effects of ASC-CM on photoaging skin.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence of active tuberculosis among rheumatic patients screened with the QFT-GIT test for latent TB before biological treatment. The results showed that the QFT-GIT test is acceptable for determining latent TB, and that TB incidence may increase in BCG-vaccinated countries.
