Summary: This study reports the successful isolation and regeneration of protoplasts from P. fascia using commercial enzymes. The production of protoplasts was enhanced by adjusting osmolarity, chelation pre-treatment, and short incubation time. Antibiotics and temperature did not significantly affect the regeneration and morphological development of the protoplasts.

Summary: A study examining the genetic structure and gene flow of Saccharina latissima along the Norwegian coast found a clear isolation pattern along the coast, with lower connectivity between South- and North-Norway and between coastal stations and innermost fjord stations. Genetic adaptation was also observed in populations in the Skagerrak area and in the two fjords.

Summary: Aerides is a group of epiphytic orchids with high ornamental value, mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical forests, comprising approximately 20 species. This study used next-generation sequencing technology to investigate the phylogeny and DNA barcoding of Aerides using genetic information from six Aerides plastid genomes. The findings provide assistance for species identification and DNA barcoding investigation in Aerides, as well as contribute to future research on the phylogenomics of Orchidaceae.

Summary: This study reported the complete chloroplast genomes of 36 Corydalis spp. and one Fumaria species and conducted comparative and phylogenetic analyses. The research found that the chloroplast genomes of Corydalis have different structural types, and the structural diversity increased during differentiation. One shared genome structure type was identified among endemic species collected from the Korean Peninsula, indicating recent divergence.

Summary: This study investigated the photosynthesis of Saccharina japonica under the interactive effects of temperature and irradiance, including spectral light quality, demonstrating a high sensitivity to light at low temperatures and enhanced photosynthetic efficiency under blue and white light. Additionally, the algae exhibited accelerated photoinhibition under high irradiance, indicating a strong physiological adaptation capability.

Summary: This study assessed the diversity and phylogeny of the brown macroalgal genus Lobophora in Singapore, revealing four species including three formally described ones and one undescribed putative species. These findings replace the previous record of an Atlantic species in Singapore and suggest that there may be more species to be discovered in the biodiverse region of Southeast Asia.

Summary: This study provides insights into the evolutionary history and biogeography of the tribe Hydrangeeae. It highlights the conserved nature of Hydrangeaceae chloroplast genomes and the differential expression of accD in different sections of the tribe. Phylogenomic analyses reveal the subdivision of the tribe into two clades, with Broussaisia identified as the basal group. The study also provides information about the phylogenetic relationships of Hydrangea petiolaris populations in Jeju and Ulleung Islands.
