Summary: Lipid metabolism, particularly high-density lipoprotein (HDL), plays a crucial role in viral infections. This study investigates the role of Epinephelus coioides SR-B1 (Ec-SR-B1) in red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV) infection and reveals that Ec-SR-B1 can promote RGNNV infection. The study also demonstrates the involvement of HDL in facilitating RGNNV entry and the interaction between Ec-SR-B1 and RGNNV's capsid protein (CP).

Summary: AAT is a crucial acute-phase protein that plays a significant role in protecting tissues, maintaining endothelial function, and improving outcomes of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. In addition to inhibiting elastase, AAT also possesses other anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, binding to partners such as cholesterol, fatty acids, lipid rafts, and lipoproteins. These findings enhance our understanding of AAT's mechanism of action.

Summary: The peptide-based HDL (pHDL) constructed through microfluidics is a potential therapeutic candidate for managing dyslipidemia and hyperglycemia in atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes. pHDL predominantly triggers activation of adipose tissue browning, providing new insights into its role in metabolic defects treatment.

Summary: Niacin therapy does not reduce cardiovascular events in statin-treated subjects, despite increasing HDL-C levels and decreasing LDL-C and triglyceride levels. The addition of niacin to statin therapy results in elevated levels of multiple HDL proteins linked to increased atherosclerotic risk, potentially compromising the cardioprotective effects associated with higher HDL-C levels and lower levels of LDL-C and triglycerides.

Summary: The research showed that self-assembly is a prerequisite for the catalysis, and the dynamics of peptide binding to gold nanoparticles are influenced by conformational changes and sequences. Rational design of peptide sequences can enhance catalytic activity, which is crucial for the design of enzyme mimics with a complex structure-function relationship.

Summary: The study aimed to produce novel stealth nanoliposomes using CD47 mimicry peptide as an alternative to PEG for minimizing macrophage-mediated clearance and enhancing circulation half-life. The results showed that the use of the CD47 mimicry peptide could prolong the circulation time of liposomal drugs and reduce tissue accumulation, improving therapeutic efficacy and reducing toxicity.

Summary: Inflammation and immune dysfunction play crucial roles in the development of atherosclerosis. Low HDL levels are associated with both atherosclerosis and autoimmune rheumatic diseases, suggesting a potential link between the two. HDL modulates immune responses by affecting cholesterol transport and lipid raft disruption, predominantly showing anti-inflammatory effects despite some pro-inflammatory actions.

Summary: This study introduces a simple platform for the delivery of chemotherapeutics using glycogen nanoparticles and albumin. The nanocomplexes formed by these two components exhibit controlled functionalities, good stability, and selective penetration in complex multicellular systems. The loaded drugs retain their cytotoxic activity and show higher sensitivity in cancer cells compared to stromal and immune cells. The nanocomplexes have limited interactions with T cells, B cells, and natural killer cells, suggesting potential use for drug delivery.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between lipid profile and liver fibrosis in patients infected with Schistosoma japonicum and develop a new predictive index. The study found that high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), hemoglobin (HB), and platelets (PLT) were independently associated with liver fibrosis. The new index, (HDL x 100)/(LDL x HB), outperformed existing indexes in predicting liver fibrosis.

Summary: Despite the efficacy of current therapies in lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol to reduce cardiovascular disease risks, there are still significant risks of morbidity and mortality from CVD in the general population. Clinical trials have been conducted to investigate the potential of direct infusion of reconstituted HDL products to reduce coronary events in CVD patients, and there is also a growing focus on developing artificial HDL-mimicking nanotherapeutics for complementary therapeutic strategies for CVD patients beyond traditional approaches.

Summary: This study investigated the association of lipid ratios with the risk of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in Chinese male subjects. The results showed that TG/HDL-C and TC/HDL-C were associated with BPH risk, and TG/HDL-C was a powerful independent risk factor for BPH in Chinese adults.

Summary: Multiple studies have shown a high prevalence of dyslipidemia in children, emphasizing the importance of early recognition to prevent future coronary heart disease. Among the various equations for estimating LDL-C, the extended Martin-Hopkins formula was found to provide the most reliable results in a large pediatric population.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia on the efficiency of lipoprotein lipase-mediated VLDL-triglyceride lipolysis, as well as the role of HDL in this process. The results showed that VLDL from patients with hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia are more resistant to lipolysis, with HDL helping to enhance the efficiency of lipolysis in these groups.

Summary: In this study, the hydrogenolysis of furfuryl alcohol to 1,2-pentanediol over various supported Ru catalysts in different solvents was investigated. Among the tested combinations, Ru/MgO in water showed the best selectivity for 1,2-pentanediol, while Ru/Al2O3 in water produced cyclopentanone and cyclopentanol through hydrogenation and rearrangement reactions.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of different organic and inorganic counter-cations on the self-assembly properties of the cyclic lipopeptide surfactin (SF), revealing that more hydrophobic counter-cations resulted in higher critical aggregation concentrations (CACs). Additionally, it was found that more hydrophobic organic counter-cations could enhance intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding to promote SF self-assembly in aqueous solution. Furthermore, mixtures of SF-Na and alkylammonium bromides with different alkyl chain lengths produced stable colloidal suspensions consisting of vesicles with a diameter around 100 nm.

Summary: We report the synergistic effect of microbial cyclic lipopeptide surfactin (SF) and petroleum-derived surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). Addition of a small amount of SF (0.1 mol %) reduces the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of SDS, minimizing SDS consumption without loss of surface activity. Surface tension measurement and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy indicate attractive interactions between SDS and SF, with an extremum observed at a mole fraction of 0.7.

Summary: The coordination of Au(i)-, Ag(i)-, and Pd(ii) transition metals to an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-based amphiphile drove diverse self-assembly processes, leading to the formation of spherical, hexagonal, cylindrical, and lamellar structures. The specific metal coordination determined the direction of self-assembly and the resulting morphology of the NHC-based amphiphile.
