Summary: Mercury, commonly used in skin lightening products, can lead to mercury poisoning. History of mercury exposure, physical examination, and relevant tests are crucial for diagnosis and treatment monitoring. Primary treatment involves discontinuation of skin lightening products, with chelation therapy recommended for symptomatic cases.

Summary: The survey revealed that bleaching of facial skin and hair is common among young females in India, with a lack of knowledge about the ingredients and side effects of bleaching even among educated individuals. The top motivations for bleaching were to lighten facial hairs, achieve a lighter complexion, and improve skin glow before an event. Awareness about bleaching is low, highlighting the need for increased education and awareness campaigns.

Summary: The skin is populated by various immune cells and sensory neurons, and the interaction between the nervous and immune systems plays a crucial role in inflammatory skin diseases. Neurotransmitters secreted by nerve terminals mediate immune cell function, while immune factors derived from immune cells interact with neurons to induce itching. This review explores the effector functions of neurons on skin immune cells in mouse models of atopic and contact dermatitis, and discusses the contribution of specific neuronal subsets and immune factors to itch induction and inflammation. The findings also shed light on treatment strategies and the relationship between scratching and dermatitis.

Summary: IL-37 and IL-33 are newly identified cytokines that play a role in various inflammatory conditions. This review aims to collect and organize data from multiple studies to establish a comprehensive understanding of their role. The studies assessed mainly focused on atopic dermatitis and immunologic pathways. The collective data suggests a pro-inflammatory role for IL-33 and an anti-inflammatory role for IL-37, potentially linked in an IL-33/IL-37 axis. Early results indicate that both cytokines may serve as markers of disease activity.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate whether the use of protective creams prior to wearing liquid-proof gloves can mitigate the occlusion effect and skin sensitivity. The results showed that the use of protective creams did not alleviate the occlusion effect, and some creams may have negative effects on the skin barrier function and increase sensitivity.

Summary: Cosmetic skin lightening is a popular practice among communities of color, despite the well-documented health risks. It is important for dermatologists to understand the medical and sociocultural implications of this practice, especially with the changing demographics in the US. This review article provides an overview of the prevalence, ingredients, and health implications of cosmetic skin lightening products, as well as recommendations for counseling patients in a culturally sensitive manner.

Summary: ACD is a delayed hypersensitivity skin reaction to environmental allergens that affects children and adults similarly. However, pediatric patch testing for ACD is less common due to challenges such as smaller surface area for testing and difficulty in cooperation, particularly with younger children. Clinical suspicion guided by patient presentation and history is key in diagnosing ACD in children.

Summary: Atopic dermatitis (AD) has seen an increase in incidence among pediatric patients in the Asia-Pacific region. Factors such as genetics, environment, and culture contribute to differences in clinical presentation and prevalence of AD among races. Early treatment, using topical corticosteroids (TCS) as first-line therapy, is important to prevent the development of comorbidities. Pimecrolimus, a topical calcineurin inhibitor (TCI) with less adverse effects than TCS, has been shown to be safe and effective in treating mild to moderate AD, but its use in infants is still restricted in some Asian countries.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the consultation pattern in dermatology and venereology from a tertiary hospital perspective during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that there was a slight increase in consultation requests during the pandemic era. One-time consultation was the most common type in both periods, with dermatitis being the most prevalent case and Gram staining being the most common examination. There were significant differences in decision conformity, diagnoses, appropriateness, and consult response time between the two groups.

Summary: This study found that hairdressing tools in both rural and urban areas in the United States release nickel, which contributes to the high prevalence of contact dermatitis among hairdressers. Cheaper tools are more likely to release nickel. These findings highlight the need for clinicians to consider occupational nickel exposure when assessing patients with allergic contact dermatitis, emphasize the importance of using barrier protection, and support the implementation of legislation regulating common allergens.
