Summary: This study suggests that exposure to the toxic metal cadmium is associated with an increased prevalence of endometriosis among a nationally representative sample of the US population. Previous epidemiological studies on cadmium and endometriosis have yielded mixed results. Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, this cross-sectional study found that higher urinary cadmium concentrations were associated with a higher prevalence of endometriosis.

Summary: ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder, and this study aims to clarify its epidemiology in Canada. The results show that the prevalence of ADHD in Canada is similar to global estimates, but varies across provinces, possibly due to differences in the availability of healthcare professionals for diagnosis and medication prescribing. Further research is needed to gain a more comprehensive understanding of ADHD in Canada.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the proportion of previously healthy patients among adults hospitalized with community-onset sepsis and compare their outcomes with those of patients with comorbidities. Retrospective analysis was conducted on adult patients with community-onset sepsis in 373 US hospitals between 2009 and 2015. The majority of patients with sepsis had comorbidities, but previously healthy patients had higher short-term mortality rates compared to patients with comorbidities.

Summary: Over the past 15 years, the prevalence of central obesity has increased in the US adult population, while the prevalence of metabolically healthy obesity among those with central obesity has remained relatively stable. The prevalence of metabolically healthy obesity has significantly increased among women, and factors such as female gender, younger age, being Hispanic or non-Hispanic black, and higher education level are significantly associated with a higher prevalence of metabolically healthy obesity.

Summary: The study highlights the increasing number of cases of colorectal cancer in individuals under 50 years old in the Western world, with reasons remaining unclear. By comparing characteristics of patients, the study aims to identify potential risk factors and clinical characteristics of colorectal cancer patients diagnosed under the age of 50 years. Patients with early-onset colorectal cancer were more likely to be diagnosed with advanced stage disease, to have received systemic treatments regardless of stage at diagnosis, and were less likely to be ever smokers or overweight.

Summary: This paper proposes a nondissipative equalization structure for addressing the inconsistency issue among series-connected LIB cells and compares it with three other equalization circuits. The state of charge (SOC) is estimated using the second-order RC model of the LIB and the adaptive unscented Kalman filter (AUKF) algorithm. The adaptive fuzzy neural network (AFNN) algorithm is utilized for effective equalization. The experiment results demonstrate that the proposed equalization structure significantly accelerates the equalization process and reduces the equalization loss compared to the other three equalization circuits.

Summary: This study examined the associations between various social capital constructs and adolescent mental disorders, severity of impairment, and comorbidity. It found that supportive friendships, family cohesion, school bonding, and extracurricular participation were consistently associated with lower odds of mental disorders in adolescents. The findings suggest that improving social capital, especially in areas like friendships, family, and school, could help prevent and treat adolescent mental disorders and comorbidity.
