Summary: Most adolescents in industrialized countries are physically inactive, and effective actions are needed to address this issue. This study presents a protocol for a project called PE4MOVE, which provides internet-supported professional training to physical education teachers in central Italy. The project aims to increase teachers' knowledge and competences in promoting students' physical activity through a continuing professional development training. The study will also assess the impact of the project on teachers' variables related to physical activity promotion, as well as students' approach to physical activity, activity levels, and physical fitness.

Summary: Physical activity is crucial for children's health, but many fail to meet recommended levels. Current school-based interventions have limited impact, so alternative approaches are needed. The school context, including setting, staff, and demographics, is often ignored but plays a key role in intervention effectiveness. We propose flexible interventions tailored to specific contexts and alternative evaluation designs to better consider context and outcomes. Considering school context can help improve the development and implementation of physical activity interventions.
