Perioperative thrombocytopenia is associated with poor graft regeneration and postoperative complications in LDLT. Increasing platelet counts may improve posttransplant outcomes.

This study aimed to improve the flush-out and decrease ischemic injury by adding hydrogen sulphide (H2S) to the flush medium. The addition of H2S during flush out and static cold storage resulted in a reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines without affecting renal function or injury markers.

This study demonstrated that supplementing the preservation solution with the S1R agonist fluvoxamine reduced cold and warm ischemic injury, improved kidney function, mitigated histological injury, and reduced inflammation. The results suggest that S1R agonists have great potential in improving organ preservation and alleviating the problem of organ shortages.

Summary: With increasing demand for donor livers, there is a need to expand the number and quality of available organs. Dynamic preservation approaches have shown benefits in improving liver function and reducing complications. However, some livers still do not meet viability tests even with modern perfusion techniques. To optimize machine liver perfusion, extended perfusion with ex situ treatment and the use of stem cells or molecules targeting repair mechanisms are promising options. Bioengineering techniques can also be used to develop optimized organs during machine perfusion. This review discusses current strategies to improve donor liver quality and the challenges and benefits associated with different perfusion strategies.

Summary: Studies have shown that postconditioning with hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has significant robust effects in limiting infarct size, decreasing release of cardiac injury markers, lowering levels of oxidative stress, and improving cardiac function. Postconditioning with slow-releasing H2S donors offers a valuable opportunity for novel therapies in cardiac preservation for transplantation. Further research evaluating the long-term effects of H2S treatment and its effects in large animal studies before clinical implementation is recommended.

Summary: This study found that intermediate monocytes are the major producers of IL-10 in heart transplant patients. The count of monocytes and the ratio of intermediate monocytes to classical monocytes significantly increased compared to pre-transplant levels. These monocytes may play an important role in the clinical outcome and long-term survival of heart transplant recipients.

Summary: This article reports on the contents and conflicts of interest of Cadaver Surgical Training (CST) programs in Japan based on professional autonomy. The Japan Surgical Society CST Promotion Committee evaluated the validity of the reports from participating universities and provided advice on proper implementation of CST. Over the past decade, 38 universities have been using cadavers for clinical education and research, such as CST. In case of identified inappropriate entries or unclear areas, the universities could be asked to resubmit their reports. This review clarifies the evaluation points of the CST reporting system, presents the status and problems of its reporting, and provides suggestions for future dissemination of CST.

The recipients showed dysbiosis and depletion of organic acid before transplantation, which were related to the severity of liver disease. The transplantation procedure caused minimal changes in gut microbiota and organic acid concentrations in the donors, while the recipients exhibited delayed recovery in these factors.

Summary: The number of patients with end-stage renal failure is increasing annually worldwide, but there is a shortage of renal transplantation donors. Transplanting renal progenitor cells into heterologous fetuses has been shown to induce the development of nephrons. In this study, researchers successfully generated human-mouse chimeric kidneys by combining this technology with drug-induced removal of specific renal progenitor cells in transgenic mice. They also developed a model using re-aggregation of mouse renal progenitor cells to evaluate the chimerogenic potential of human nephron progenitor cells derived from pluripotent stem cells. This study provides promising potential for the evaluation and generation of chimeric kidneys for regenerative medicine.

The bag showed good insulation capacity and usability, and the clinical outcomes suggested that its use could reduce kidney damage, although its impact on mildly damaged kidneys is still unclear.

However, there remains a persistent knowledge and comfort gap among these prescribers.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of using humanized anti-carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) antibodies conjugated with near-infrared dyes to specifically label gastric cancers in mouse models. Orthotopic models showed bright and specific labeling with more than ten times higher tumor-to-background ratios compared to the control. This tumor-specific fluorescent antibody has promising potential as a clinical tool for improving visualization of gastric cancer margins during surgical resection.

Summary: This scoping review analyzed the literature on the use of broadband personality tests in the bariatric surgical population to optimize weight loss outcomes. The study found significant associations between personality scales and weight loss, but inconsistent reporting of outcome measures made it challenging to draw concrete conclusions. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery recommends standardization of outcome reporting to improve the reliability of predicting weight loss outcomes.
