Summary: This study investigated the rate and distribution of spine metastases in patients with myxoid liposarcoma (LPS) and found that spine metastases were common and associated with worse overall survival in these patients. Routine surveillance with spine MRI may not provide benefits for patients with localized disease but can be considered for those with known metastatic disease.

Summary: The study investigates the mechanoreflex control of respiration and circulation in patients with COPD. It is found that patients with COPD have a higher respiratory frequency response to mechanoreceptor activation, possibly due to glutathione redox imbalance and augmented brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression.

Summary: In this article, a vision-assisted autonomous lower-limb exoskeleton robot (VALOR) is developed to improve adaptability to complex walking environments. Through environmental information acquisition and autonomous decision-making, the robot can significantly enhance its adaptability. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified in a controlled indoor environment.

Summary: This study proposes a gait symmetry detection model that establishes a classification rule based on gait symmetry under different weight-bearing states, and measures movement consistency through multiple experiments. The model effectively quantifies signal differences between legs and extracts information through time warping. The proposed method shows significant improvement in detecting and measuring symmetry compared to existing methods.

Summary: There are two methods for generating paediatric musculoskeletal geometry: scaling generic adult geometry, which is widely accessible but inaccurate, and obtaining geometry from medical imaging, which is accurate but time-consuming and costly. A population-based shape model was developed to generate accurate and accessible musculoskeletal geometry in a paediatric population. The model accurately predicted bone geometry without the need for medical imaging.

Summary: Limited data exist on limb liposarcoma (LLS) patients with metastasis at presentation, making the potential prognostic factors poorly documented due to its rarity. This study evaluated the clinicopathologic characteristics and prognostic factors for these patients using the SEER database. Results showed that primary tumor surgery significantly prolonged survival, but the effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy need further confirmation.

Summary: This article focuses on the system efficiency of real-time environmental context prediction for lower limb prostheses, proposing an uncertainty-aware frame selection strategy and a dynamic Bayesian gated recurrent unit network, while also exploring the tradeoff between computational complexity and environment prediction accuracy with additional sensing modalities. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed frame selection strategy can significantly reduce computations while maintaining high accuracy, with potential for multimodality fusion.

Summary: In this study, a new method was introduced for synthesizing lower-limb exoskeletons, and a mathematical model of multicriteria optimization was proposed. Several lower-limb exoskeleton mechanisms with six links, well-adapted to human anatomical structure, superior trajectory accuracy, efficient force transmission, satisfactory step height, and an internal transfer segment of the foot were obtained.

Summary: IVUS-assisted endovascular treatment of PAU allows for durable exclusion of PAU with a short fluoroscopy time and no need for contrast media injection. All patients had a landing zone of at least 2 cm, and there were no type I endoleaks postoperatively. There were no mortalities, morbidities, or arterial access complications observed, and the median postoperative hospital stay was 2 days with a median follow-up of 25 months.

Summary: The study revealed elevated levels of the novel inflammatory cytokine GDF-15 in patients with gastrointestinal and lung cancer, associated with anorexia. Patients with gastrointestinal cancer showed higher GDF-15 levels and were more anorexic compared to lung cancer patients. The study confirms the role of GDF-15 in the pathogenesis of anorexia in cancer, while further research is needed to understand its involvement in changes in muscularity.

Summary: The aim of this retrospective study was to compare the outcomes of laparoscopy-assisted total gastrectomy (LATG) and open total gastrectomy (OTG) for advanced gastric cancer. The study found that OTG had comparable results to LATG in terms of postoperative mortality, morbidity, overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), number of retrieved lymph nodes, operating time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative length of stay (LOS), and incidence of local recurrence.

Summary: Frailty assessment is crucial in emergency surgery for elderly patients, and the EmSFI index has been developed to accurately stratify surgical risk. The model showed good accuracy in predicting mortality but performed poorly in predicting complications.
