Summary: The study developed and validated the Residency Community Well-Being (RCWB) instrument to measure the subjective community well-being of a residency program. The instrument consists of three subscales: program leadership, resident interpersonal relationships, and resident mistreatment. The RCWB score showed positive correlations with professional fulfillment and thriving, and negative correlation with burnout.

Summary: The study found that current well-being interventions mainly focus on changing individual experiences rather than addressing underlying workplace issues. The decision-making process for well-being interventions often lacks objective data. The survey results showed that interventions that increase control, support, and reduce demands were consistently deemed beneficial, while interventions that increase demands were consistently seen as not beneficial. The benefits of group social activities, cognitive skills training, and well-being committees varied among individuals.

Summary: The study found that female surgical trainees were more likely to report high depersonalization and less likely to report high mindfulness tendencies compared to male trainees. Participants identified time and priorities as the main barriers to using well-being resources. Focus group findings emphasized the value of individual-level interventions, the importance of advance scheduling of time off, prioritizing work quality over quantity, and the negative impact of inefficient systems.

Summary: The survey revealed that most CV Fellowship PDs are satisfied with their positions, but some experience high levels of work stress and burnout. Women, early-career PDs, and those in larger, university-based programs demonstrate more adverse well-being markers. There are opportunities to support CV Fellowship PDs in their critical roles.

Summary: Leadership in surgery is a complex and demanding process that is crucial to maintaining quality in surgical care. Modern surgical leaders must possess inclusivity, flexibility, emotional competence, team-building skills, and a multidisciplinary approach. They face challenges in the complex healthcare environment and evidence-based strategies are needed to address these challenges, such as increasing representation of marginalized groups in leadership positions, creating a collegial environment, providing reporting pathways for workplace harassment victims, and promoting equitable opportunities and support.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of individualized professional coaching on psychological burnout, quality of life, and resilience among surgeons. The results showed that after the intervention, the overall burnout rate decreased by 2.5% in the intervention group compared to an increase of 2.5% in the control group. Resilience scores improved by 1.9 points in the intervention group. However, six months later, burnout returned to near baseline levels while resilience continued to improve in the intervention group. The delayed intervention group also experienced improvements in burnout during their coaching experience.

Summary: This study found that reducing stress and burnout in teachers can have positive effects on students' well-being and academic environment, especially in terms of increasing students' perceptions of teacher support and academic self-perception. However, teachers' cognitive flexibility does not mediate this relationship between students and teachers.

Summary: This study developed and tested an Inguinal Hernia EPA Assessment on the ENTRUST platform, a serious game-based virtual patient simulation, to evaluate surgical residents' decision-making competence. The results showed that performance on this assessment was positively correlated with PGY-level and prior operative experience, providing initial validity evidence for its use in objective assessment of surgical decision-making.
