Summary: The self-assembly of nonionic X-shaped Gemini surfactants was studied to determine their encapsulation efficiency. It was found that surfactants with a more stretched structure had better encapsulation efficiency. Surfactants with a stretched structure also formed more stable oil/surfactant aggregates compared to those with a relatively open structure. These findings are important for the synthesis of X-shaped Gemini surfactants for thickening agents or drug carriers.

Summary: In this study, the effects of cationic gemini and conventional surfactants on the anesthetic drug tetracaine hydrochloride (TCH) were investigated using tensiometry and UV-visible techniques. Different theoretical models were used to analyze the results and estimate the micellar, interfacial, and energetic constraints. The findings showed that the mixed amphiphiles had a critical micelle concentration between that of the individual amphiphiles, indicating strong synergistic interaction between the components after mixing. Spectral measurements demonstrated that the double chain surfactant (gemini) had better interactions with the drug compared to the single chain surfactant. The study of these mixed systems can help optimize their compositions and discover synergistic properties between TCH monomers and surfactants.

Summary: In the study, the surface activities and application of surfactant mixtures containing cationic surfactant DTAC and anionic amino acid surfactant SLG were systematically studied. The addition of DTAC significantly reduced the CMC value of the SLG system, indicating a strong interaction between DTAC and SLG. The compounding of DTAC and SLG increased solubility, reduced the Krafft point of SLG, and improved application performance.

Summary: This study presents a detailed investigation on a mixture fluid composed of two different sulfobetaine-type zwitterionic Gemini surfactants, EDABS and EDAES, showing promising salt-resistance, viscoelasticity, and temperature-tolerance properties. The BES-3 fluid with a molar ratio of 1:1 exhibits the best salt-resistance due to strong interactions between the two surfactants. These results suggest strong potential for the BES-3 fluid to be used as a rheological modifier in fracturing fluid and oil-displacing agents.

Summary: Compounding technology is used to reduce the surfactant dosage, especially for Gemini surfactants with complex production processes and high costs. A novel Gemini sulfonate surfactant, sodium ethylene bisulfosuccinate isooctyl polyoxypropylene polyoxyethylene ether diester (GS-iOPE), was synthesized and characterized. The surface properties of GS-iOPE were measured, and it was found that there was synergism in system I and II. Additionally, the wetting ability and emulsifying ability of the mixed systems were also studied.

Summary: The aggregation behavior of mixed micellar solutions based on cationic hexadecylpiperidinium surfactants and nonionic surfactant Tween 80 was studied using tensiometric, fluorimetric, and dynamic light scattering methods. Negative deviation from ideal mixing (synergistic effect) was observed. The piperidinium surfactants showed high antimicrobial activity, and the presence of Tween 80 reduced the acute toxicity of the system. Specific interactions between surfactants and cell components were found to be responsible for the antimicrobial effect.

Summary: PyO-3-12 is a gemini surfactant with unique properties, including a critical micelle concentration (CMC) of 0.38 (+/- 0.05) mM and an aggregation number (Nagg) of 23 (+/- 2). The introduction of an oxygen atom in the fl-position next to pyrene enhances the sensitivity of the pyrenyl label to the polarity of the environment and increases the effective volume of the hydrophobic part of PyO-3-12, leading to an increase in Nagg compared to similar gemini surfactants. The methodology described in this study can be applied to study pyrene-labeled surfactants and their interactions with oppositely charged macromolecules.

Summary: Photoswitchable surfactants are used in the design of light-responsive colloids and self-assemblies. This study investigates the intermediate lipid-surfactant assemblies formed during fast isothermal photo-triggered transitions. The experiments reveal that the transient assemblies detected during the photo-triggered kinetics are similar to the stationary states. Additionally, the reorganization speed of surfactant-enriched assemblies is faster than that of lipid-enriched ones.

Summary: This study establishes a combinatorial library composed of 150 molecular weight-defined gemini amphiphiles (GAs) to identify carriers that facilitate robust cytosolic delivery of proteins. The top candidate efficiently translocates a broad spectrum of proteins into the cytosol, primarily through lipid raft-dependent membrane fusion, bypassing the classical endocytic pathway. This study reveals a GA-based small-molecule carrier platform for the direct cytosolic delivery of various types of proteins for therapeutic purposes.

Summary: Organic dyes, particularly those with hydrophobic properties, face solubility challenges in water-based applications. This study explores the use of various anionic and cationic surfactants to enhance the solubility and stability of a cationic dye, with spectrophotometric data providing insights into partition coefficients and binding constants. Additionally, the study examines the differences between mixed micellar media and solo surfactant systems in terms of binding and partitioning abilities, highlighting the synergistic effects between cationic and anionic components.

Summary: Ionic liquids and their binary mixtures with judiciously selected co-solvents have been found to exhibit superior physicochemical properties, making them novel solvents for various technological applications. The solvation behavior of [bmim][Tf2N] + PEGs mixtures on the UV-vis and fluorescence response of C-102 dye has been studied, revealing interesting solvatochromic behavior. Further analysis using Bosch solvation model and multiparameter approach has provided insights into the solvatochromic behavior of C-102 in binary mixtures of IL/PEGs.

Summary: The micellization behavior of anionic surfactant in aqueous medium was investigated, along with the effect of anionic hydrotrope. The results showed that the critical micelle concentration of the surfactant decreased with increasing hydrotrope concentration. The interactions between the hydrotrope and surfactant were found to be synergistic. Thermodynamic parameters of micellization were calculated and the non-covalent interactions in the mixed surfactant-hydrotrope systems were revealed using experimental techniques.

Summary: This study reports the effect of adenosine and temperature on the micellization of a cationic gemini surfactant. The results show that the addition of adenosine increases the critical micelle concentration (CMC), and increasing temperature also leads to an increase in CMC. The evaluated energetics indicate lower stability of the surfactant solution in the presence of adenosine. Further analysis confirms that there is no chemical reaction during the interaction between the gemini surfactant and adenosine.

Summary: The study investigates the interaction between SDS and DHB, as well as the effect of temperature and concentration on mixed systems. The critical micelle concentration of SDS changes with temperature and DHB concentration, while the density and viscosity of the mixed systems decrease with increasing temperature. Synergistic effects are observed in the mixed surfactant-hydrotrope systems. Characterization is done through FTIR and NMR spectroscopic studies.

Summary: In this study, the interaction between a hydrotrope, p-toluene sulfonyl chloride (p-TSC), and an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), was investigated using various measurements. The results showed that the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of SDS increases with the concentration of p-TSC, and at higher concentrations, reverse micelles are formed. The physicochemical properties of the pure and mixed systems were analyzed using FTIR and 1H NMR, and no covalent bond formation was observed. Density, dynamic viscosity, and kinematic viscosity of the systems were also reported.
