Summary: Recently, the use of nanofertilizers in managing plants under stresses has gained attention. However, the role of silicon dioxide nanoparticles (SiO(2)NPs) in regulating maize tolerance to drought stress is still at an early stage. In this study, plants treated with SiO(2)NPs showed improved growth indices and increased levels of chlorophylls, proline, cell membrane integrity, leaf water content, and antioxidant enzymes. Molecular investigation revealed upregulation of PsbD and downregulation of OSM-34 and AQPs in SiO(2)NPs-treated plants under drought stress. This research could contribute to further understanding of how SiO(2)NPs enhance plant resistance to drought stress.

Summary: The present study aimed to investigate the alleviating effect of hydrogen-rich water (HRW) on salt stress in cucumber seedlings. The results showed that HRW pretreatment significantly promoted seedling growth and photosynthetic efficiency, and alleviated salt stress symptoms. Furthermore, HRW pretreatment positively influenced the redox balance in cells and reduced the degree of oxidative damage. The study also revealed that HRW pretreatment achieved these effects by regulating the expression of related genes.

Summary: The use of biopesticides is essential for food security and sustainable agriculture, but their effectiveness may be limited due to the diversity of stresses. This study investigated the effects of two biopesticides, physcion and chitosan-oligosaccharide (COS), alone and in combination, on growth and antioxidant potential of maize seedlings. The results showed that the combination of physcion and COS improved growth, reduced growth inhibition caused by physcion, and enhanced antioxidant potential.

Summary: This study investigates the regulatory roles of hydrogen-rich water (HRW) on water status, ion balance, and nutrient content in Lanzhou lily scales. The results demonstrate that treatment with 50% HRW enhances the water retention capacity, regulates ion balance, and increases sugar-metabolizing enzyme activity, thereby prolonging the storage period of postharvest scales of Lanzhou lily.

Summary: The study systematically verified maize's tolerance to bisphenol A (BPA), an emerging pollutant of plastics. It found that high levels of BPA severely inhibited maize growth and metabolic features, while low levels promoted growth and photosynthetic activity. The study also revealed BPA's phytotoxic effects on maize, with a greater impact on roots than on shoots, as well as maize's resistance to BPA pollution.

Summary: Cadmium and selenium can jointly affect plant growth. This study investigated the effects of different foliar application doses of selenium on the accumulation of cadmium in walnut seedlings under cadmium stress. The results showed that selenium application increased walnut biomass and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities in walnut roots and leaves. Additionally, selenium application reduced the levels of reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde, as well as decreased the accumulation of cadmium in different parts of walnuts.

Summary: Wheat is widely grown cereal and low temperature stress affects its development. This study investigated different priming methods (hormo-, halo-, osmo-, and hydropriming) to enhance wheat's resistance to low temperatures. Priming showed positive effects on growth, vigor index, and protein content. Antioxidant enzymes and phenolic compounds were significantly affected by seed priming, with the best results observed with hormo- and hydropriming. The study concludes that seed priming is a promising approach to increase wheat seedlings' resistance to low temperature stress.

This study aimed to clarify the mitigating effect of exogenous melatonin on wheat seedlings under chromium stress. The results showed that melatonin application improved plant growth, diminished chromium accumulation, and enhanced the antioxidant system of the plants.
