Summary: Although there is still room for improvement in diagnostic and treatment options for various cancers, electrochemical biosensors using quartz tuning forks (QTF) have emerged as a promising platform. This research explores the functionalization and isolation of QTF for biomarker determination, demonstrating their unique response and sensitivity. The results show that QTF-based immunosensors have high detection sensitivity and low cost, making them ideal for point-of-care diagnostic devices.

Summary: We successfully prepared a non-enzymatic sensor based on a graphene-thiophene composite for histamine detection. The sensor exhibited a linear regression pattern for the oxidation peak in the concentration range of 100-200 mg/kg, with a lowest limit of detection of 13.8 mg/kg and a limit of quantification of 46 mg/kg. Monitoring histamine in food products can help detect early spoilage and reduce foodborne poisoning and waste.

Summary: The electrochemical oxidation of resorcinol was experimentally investigated on platinum, palladium, and glassy carbon electrodes. Extensive electrochemical characterization was conducted, and the results were integrated with complementary chromatographic analytical techniques: LC-DAD and LC-MS. It was demonstrated that resorcinol can efficiently and easily polymerize during electrochemical oxidation, forming a polymer film with good adhesion on the electrode surface.

Summary: A litre-scale multi-modular microbial fuel cell was operated using exo-electrogenic inoculum enriched from cow-dung for 45 days in batch mode, under three different circuit connections. Electrochemical analysis showed that the individual circuit had the highest power output and the lowest internal resistance. Additionally, the study reported COD removal rate and columbic efficiency of the MFC.

Summary: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune disease that affects connective tissue. A nano-engineered immunosensor surface was developed for detecting the oncostatin M receptor (sOSMR) protein in clinical samples. The biosensor showed a differential diagnostic character for limited cutaneous (lSSc) and diffuse cutaneous (dSSc) SSc subtypes. The sensing strategy demonstrated high sensitivity and potential for SSc-related biomarker research.

Summary: This study analyzed the purification of LiCl-KCl eutectic melt by chlorine and the effect of LiCl-KCl + xwt.% H2O prepared by thermal equilibration of eutectic mixture with H2O at 500 degrees C on the moisture content. The analysis was done using acid-base titration and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) at an inert tungsten electrode. The study found that the cathodic reduction of H2O led to the formation of OH- film, which contributed to capacitive response and resistance to other faradaic processes. Additionally, the study explored the anodic dissolution of a uranium electrode in LiCl-KCl eutectic melts using EIS.

Summary: A novel method was described for producing a layered 3D scaffold consisting of electrospun poly (L,D-lactide) fibers embedded into collagen 1 hydrogel to mimic the natural microenvironment of human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived neurons. The method enabled the production of a cell-containing scaffold with directed cell growth and neurite extension in a single process. This layered 3D scaffold is a useful model for both in vitro and in vivo neuronal tissue engineering applications.
