Introduction. Oral sex is usually considered a lower-risk sexual activity when compared with sex, but it is frequently the cause of sexually transmitted infections (STI). In particular, STI transferred through oral sex might have no visible symptoms, depending on the type of infection. Aims. The aim of this study is to review the literature about the role of oral sex in the transmission of nonviral STI. Main Outcome Measures. State-of-the-art information in the area of STI in relation to sexual function and self-care, this last important for development of STI prevention products such as vaginal microbicides. Sexual behaviors assessed focusing on receiving oral sex and giving oral sex. Methods. A search of the main electronic databases including registers of clinical controlled trials was performed in addition to a hand search of the most relevant Journals. The following electronic databases were searched: PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar, literature review of research articles, and public health department InternetWeb sites, for the period of 1945-2011. In addition to searching the Clinical Trials Registry at the US National Institutes of Health, we also used the meta Register of Controlled Trials and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. Results. STI affect the mucous membranes both directly and indirectly producing characteristic diagnostic signs and lesions. Daily dental clinical activity needs an appropriate knowledge of any kind of oral lesions-related STI. The reader is offered a practical approach with clinically relevant recommendations that may prove useful in his/ her daily practice when dealing with STI. Conclusions. These data provide a foundation for understanding diverse STI. We advise physicians to be receptive to discuss sexuality issues and provide patients with adequate therapy. Is the Non-Coding RNA miR-195 a Biodynamic Marker in the Pathogenesis of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma? A Prognostic Meta-Analysis

Mario Dioguardi, Francesca Spirito, Giorgia Apollonia Caloro, Lorenzo Lo Muzio, Stefania Cantore, Andrea Ballini, Salvatore Scacco, Annarita Malcangi, Salvatore Sembronio, Eliano Cascardi, Roberto Arrigoni, Michele Di Cosola, Riccardo Nocini

Summary: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is a heterogeneous group of tumors derived from the mucous membranes lining the oral cavity, larynx, hypopharynx, nasopharynx, and oropharynx. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of miR-195 expression in HNSCC tissues. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, and the results showed that higher miR-195 expression was associated with improved overall survival in HNSCC patients.

Cannabidiol for Oral Health: A New Promising Therapeutical Tool in Dentistry

Luigi Bellocchio, Assunta Patano, Alessio Danilo Inchingolo, Francesco Inchingolo, Gianna Dipalma, Ciro Gargiulo Isacco, Elisabetta de Ruvo, Biagio Rapone, Antonio Mancini, Felice Lorusso, Antonio Scarano, Giuseppina Malcangi, Angelo Michele Inchingolo

Summary: The medical use of cannabis has a long history, and Delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), cannabidiol (CBD), and cannabinol (CBN) are the main cannabinoids found in cannabis. CBD does not produce the psychotropic effects associated with cannabis and has gained attention in dentistry. Subjective findings and research evidence suggest therapeutic effects of CBD, although there is conflicting data on its mechanism of action and therapeutic potential. This article provides an overview of the scientific evidence on CBD's action and explores its possible oral benefits in dentistry, highlighting its promising biological features.

Location and Gender Differences in Osteonecrosis of the Jaws in Patients Treated with Antiresorptive and Antineoplastic Drugs Undergoing Dentoalveolar Surgical, Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis and Trial Sequential Analysis

Mario Dioguardi, Francesca Spirito, Mario Alovisi, Riccardo Aiuto, Daniele Garcovich, Vito Crincoli, Andrea Ballini, Giorgia Apollonia Caloro, Lorenzo Lo Muzio

Summary: Antiresorption drugs like bisphosphonates and monoclonal antibodies are used in the treatment of osteoporosis and other bone-related diseases. These drugs have been associated with cases of osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ). Risk factors include extraction procedures in oral surgery, particularly in the mandible and maxilla. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine if there is a greater risk of MRONJ in male or female subjects and to assess the involvement of osteonecrosis in different extraction sites. After analyzing 24 studies, the results showed a trend of higher risk in males and in the posterior mandibular sector, but further studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Exploring the Association of Burning Mouth Syndrome with Depressive and Anxiety Disorders in Middle-Aged and Older Adults: A Systematic Review

Vittorio Dibello, Andrea Ballini, Madia Lozupone, Carlo Custodero, Stefania Cantore, Rodolfo Sardone, Antonio Dibello, Filippo Santarcangelo, Bianca Barulli Kofler, Massimo Petruzzi, Antonio Daniele, Vincenzo Solfrizzi, Francesco Panza

Summary: This systematic review evaluated the relationship between burning mouth syndrome (BMS) and depressive and anxiety disorders in middle-aged and older individuals. The results showed that anxiety disorders were the most common psychiatric disorders related to BMS (63.7%), followed by depressive disorders (36.3%). The role of pain in explaining these associations appeared to be controversial.

Summary: Labial frenectomy is a surgical technique that aims to remove the frenulum attached to the underlying bone. This study compared the effectiveness of laser technique with conventional surgical technique for labial frenectomy. The review suggests that laser-performed labial frenectomy is faster and offers better intra- and postoperative management, but more research is needed for definitive conclusions.

Safety, metabolic and psychological outcomes of Medtronic MiniMed 670G in children, adolescents and young adults: a systematic review

Chiara Mameli, Giulia Marie Smylie, Alessio Galati, Biagio Rapone, Roque Cardona-Hernandez, Gianvincenzo Zuccotti, Maurizio Delvecchio

Summary: Hybrid closed loop (HCL) systems combine insulin delivery pumps with glucose sensors for continuous monitoring, managed by an algorithm. The MiniMed (TM) 670G is the first HCL system available for clinical use. Literature review shows that the system is safe and effective in managing glucose control, with potential improvements in HbA1c levels and time spent within target range. Psychological outcomes vary in different papers. Longer studies are needed to better understand the system's potential.
