Summary: Population-level surveillance of student weight status is important, but there are concerns about accurately measuring student BMI in schools. This study compared objective and self-reported BMI data from a large school district and found that self-reported measurements significantly underestimated weight and BMI compared to objective measurements. The self-report data also led to a misclassification of a significant number of students with obesity and severe obesity. These findings highlight the limitations of self-reported BMI in identifying high-risk students.

Summary: This study examines the association and temporal trends between the food environment and BMI of adults. The results show that BMI increases as accessibility to healthy outlets decreases. High access to supermarkets and unhealthy outlets are associated with lower BMI. The research highlights the importance of increasing access to diverse food outlets, particularly healthy ones, for promoting good health.

Summary: Schools have significant impacts on children's development in various aspects. District wellness policies play a crucial role in promoting health-related practices within and outside school buildings. However, many current policies are limited, isolated, and reactive, rather than proactive. This paper discusses the strengthening of food, nutrition, and physical activity policies in the United States, the historical approaches to policies on children's social, emotional, and behavioral health, and proposes the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model for enhancing the coordination and integration of wellness policies. The use of tools such as WellSAT WSCC and WSCC Policy and Practice Blueprints can support the implementation of the WSCC model and facilitate the development of the whole child.

Summary: Eating behaviours play a significant role in determining energy intake and can be influenced by food choices and decisions concerning the initiation and termination of eating. This study aimed to examine and compare the eating behaviours of Polish and Portuguese adults and explore the associations between daily behaviours, food-approaches and food-avoidance behaviours, and BMI in both populations. The survey was conducted using a website-based questionnaire involving single-choice questions. No significant differences in eating behaviours related to BMI levels were found between the Polish and Portuguese adults. However, both groups exhibited an increased intensity of food-approach behaviours, which directly correlated with higher BMI. Binge drinking and increased snacking intensity were also associated with higher BMI, with a higher prevalence of binge drinking observed in the Polish sample. The study highlights the importance of nutrition education in improving eating habits and food choices to prevent overweight and obesity in adults.

Summary: This study explored caregiver perception of children's weight status in areas of high socioeconomic deprivation. Most children were overweight or obese, but only a small percentage were correctly perceived as such by their caregivers. Caregivers tended to judge their child's body size in comparison to other children. The normalization of childhood obesity and low caregiver recognition of this condition may impact the uptake and effectiveness of intervention initiatives.
