Summary: This study investigated the association between coronary artery calcium (CAC) and all-cause mortality in an Asian cohort. The results showed that higher CAC scores were associated with increased risk of death, and age was found to be a moderating variable.

Summary: The study found an association between obesity and circulating progenitor cell counts, with obesity being independently associated with higher CPC counts in both asymptomatic individuals and patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). In patients with CAD, obesity was associated with higher CPC counts and a lower risk of adverse outcomes. Obese patients with high CPC counts were found to have a lower risk compared to nonobese patients.

Summary: This study found that decreasing BMI trends in late life were associated with higher risk of developing dementia. Among them, individuals with an initial increase and subsequent decline in BMI during mid-life had a greater risk of dementia.

Summary: In patients with coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO), higher BMI is associated with better long-term outcomes, and compared to low BMI, the high BMI group has a lower all-cause mortality rate.

Summary: There is controversy regarding the suitability of high BMI candidates accessing the transplant waitlist. This study found that obesity did not impact patient survival but affected graft function and loss.

Summary: This study found that calcium scores in the coronary, carotid, and thoracic arteries are independent predictors of major adverse cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease. The potential of calcification in these three arterial sites for predicting cardiovascular events and mortality was most pronounced.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the impact of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) and pericardial adipose tissue (PAT) on patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). It found that EAT and PAT volumes are higher in overweight and obese individuals, and are associated with coronary artery calcification score (CCS).

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between BMI and mortality in patients with triple-vessel disease. Results showed a U-shape association between BMI and mortality risk, with increased risks among underweight and severely obese patients. The relationship may be influenced by treatment strategies.

Summary: There is a substantial rate of misclassification of weight status between BMI and BAI in elderly patients with stable CAD. BMI tends to overestimate weight status, while BAI underestimates it. Despite some correlations between BMI and BAI, they exhibit discrepancies in assessing weight status.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between BMI, CAD, and clinical outcomes using the ADVANCE registry. The results showed that overweight and obese patients had a lower rate of anatomical stenosis, but had a similar burden of physiologically significant disease and rates of adverse events regardless of BMI.

Summary: The obesity paradox exists in patients with chronic kidney disease, with high body mass index (BMI) associated with improved survival. Central obesity has a stronger prognostic value than BMI. Total body fat percentage (TBF%) may provide more information than BMI and waist circumference (WC). TBF% can predict all-cause mortality in patients with advanced CKD and normal weight, normal WC, or both.

Summary: This study found a close association between cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease in CKD patients, with vascular calcification as a major predictor of cardiovascular disease. Vascular calcification was found to be associated with changes in bone and mineral metabolism, and bone metabolism and inflammatory markers were positively correlated with CAC scores. Additionally, a higher risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular hospitalization was observed when the CAC score exceeded 400.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the risk factors for radial artery calcification (RAC) in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and investigate its relationship with subsequent cardiovascular events (CVE) and vascular access trouble (VAT). The results showed that RAC was associated with high systolic blood pressure, low hemoglobin, and low transferrin saturation. However, no association was found between RAC and CVE/VAT.
