Summary: We synthesized a thermoresponsive polymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution using organic photo-redox-catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (O-ATRP). The O-ATRP was mediated by a photoredox catalyst 1,2,3,5-tetrakis (carbazol-9-yl)-4,6-dicyanobenzene (4CzIPN) under visible light irradiation. The polymerization of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) chains from a hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC)-based macroinitiator was characterized using various analytical methods. The resulting PMMA-grafted HPC (PMMA-g-HPC) showed a widened lower critical solution temperature (LCST) window and an inverse pH dependency of the LCST, making it promising for various applications including drug delivery systems.

Summary: A novel chain-end modification of polymer iodides via reversible complexation-mediated polymerization with different functionalized radical generation agents was developed. The reaction mechanism was probed using MALDI-TOF MS, and the key factors for efficiency were the combination rate constant and the amount of radicals generated per unit of time.

Summary: In this study, a well-defined block copolymer was successfully synthesized using triarylsulfonium hexafluorophosphate salt as the organocatalyst for both photo-ATRP and ROP. The conversions of the two polymerizations were higher in a one-pot synthesis compared to separate polymerizations, indicating a promotion of each other. This efficient method is suitable for preparing complex block copolymers.

Summary: This article reports the synthesis of polymer-vesicle latex particles using extruded vesicles of DODAB via an atom transfer radical polymerization-based approach. Cryo-TEM characterization reveals that the final morphology of the particles is affected by monomer feed composition and chain length. Protrusions or nanocapsules were synthesized depending on the monomer combinations used.

Summary: The poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate]-graft-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PPEGMA-g-P2VP) comb-type graft copolymer was synthesized using the ATRP-macromonomeric initiator and 2-vinylpyridine monomer by applying atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) via grafting through strategy. The ATRP-MMI was obtained by homopolymerizing poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate bromide in the presence of 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile by free radical polymerization (FRP) technique. The PPEGMA-g-P2VP comb-type graft copolymer was successfully prepared by ATRP method and the monomer concentration had an effect on dispersity and molecular weight.

Summary: The termination processes of the tertiary carbomethoxyisopropylradical, (COOMe)Me2C & BULL;, were investigated by H-1 NMR. The investigation assessed the contributions of the Cu-I/L-catalyzed radical termination (CRT) and the reductive radical termination (RRT) to the spontaneous bimolecular radical terminations (RT). It also reassessed the product distribution for the RT of the diffused and caged radicals obtained from the thermal activation of V-601.

Summary: PDMS is a versatile material for biomedical devices, but its hydrophobic nature makes it prone to microbial colonization. This study presents a new method of introducing an ATRP initiator onto the PDMS surface and grafting PDMAEMA brushes using SI-SARA-ATRP to enhance antimicrobial properties. The fast reaction rate and increased antimicrobial activity demonstrate the potential for full-scale exploitation of PDMS in biomedical devices.

Summary: Poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-polyethylene (PMMA-b-PE) block copolymers were obtained by emulsion CCTP, and the increase of methacrylic oligomer molar mass correlated to the consumption of unsaturated oligomers indicated the formation of block copolymers. This study successfully transposed the chemistry performed in DMC solution to PMMA latex.

Summary: Polymerizations in aqueous dispersed media benefit from good heat transfer, low viscosity, low content of volatile compounds, and established industrial use. The implementation of ATRP in dispersed media has highlighted the possibility of achieving improved livingness and producing a variety of macromolecular architectures. ATRP techniques employing low-ppm catalyst loadings have enabled access to a larger variety of polymer architectures and functional polymer particles, which have found applications in molecular recognition, drug delivery, bio-quantification, and advanced coatings.

Summary: In this study, researchers developed multi- and polyvalent compounds capable of inhibiting bacterial sialidases. These compounds show a higher inhibitory potential than monovalent analogues, and exhibit a synergistic interaction in the catalytic domain. These results offer interesting perspectives for multivalent inhibition of other SA families lacking a carbohydrate-binding module.

Summary: Well-defined, highly reactive poly(norbornenyl azlactone)s were synthesized by ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of pure exo-norbornenyl azlactone with controlled length. Postpolymerization modification (PPM) strategy based on click aminolysis of azlactone side groups was employed to convert them into glycopolymers using pegylated mannoside, heptyl-mannoside, and pegylated glucoside. The resulting glycopolymers showed strong binding inhibition against lectins, surpassing the inhibitory potential of their monovalent analogues by four to five orders of magnitude.
