Summary: Four double-tailed hybrid fluorocarbon-hydro-carbon surfactants with a poly(ethylene glycol) polar headgroup were synthesized, showing high water solubility and low critical micellar concentration values, with small micelle diameters and large aggregation numbers during self-assembly. The combination of these properties makes these new surfactants promising carriers for novel drug delivery systems.

Summary: The synthesis of stimuli-responsive amphiphilic dendrimers composed of hydrophobic octadecyl groups linked to hydrophilic polylysine dendrons through disulfide linkage is reported. These dendrimers can form spherical micelles that disassemble in the presence of glutathione, serving as key building blocks for generating stimuli-responsive supramolecular architectures.

Summary: In this study, a nonviral gene vector with low cytotoxicity, visual tracking ability, and high serum tolerance was constructed using the combination of fluorination and aggregation-induced emission (AIE). The vector, FluoTPA, showed effective delivery of nucleic acids into cells and achieved comparable transfection efficiency under high serum content. The results suggest that FluoTPA could be a reliable theranostic platform for nonviral nucleic acid therapeutics in serum condition.

Summary: A coassembly strategy for a supramolecular vector/drug was proposed, which uses biocompatible molecules to achieve pH-responsive and sustained release functions. The self-assembling behaviors of the components and the functions of the vector/drug were characterized. The results demonstrate that this coassembly method is a simple and effective approach.

Summary: Dendrimers are synthetic materials that resemble proteins in terms of their discrete structural organization, globular morphology, and nanoscale dimensions. They can be easily produced on a large scale. In recent years, novel dendritic architectures have emerged, expanding the landscape of dendrimers beyond traditional paradigms. This review aims to provide a comprehensive panorama of dendrimers, discussing their key attributes and applications.

Summary: The structural changes induced by ultraviolet irradiation in a newly developed amphiphilic lophine dimer were investigated using in situ time resolved small-angle neutron scattering. The findings suggest that the micelles reshape from spherical to ellipsoidal shape accompanied by dehydration under UV irradiation. This study provides important insights for the development of new materials.

Summary: The mechanism of structural changes in fast-photoresponsive amphiphilic lophine dimer micelles upon UV irradiation was investigated. It was found that the micelles changed from spherical to ellipsoidal shape accompanied by dehydration, and this structural change occurred twice as fast as molecular association. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of new materials.

Summary: This study investigates the supramolecular assembly of dendronized spiropyrans (DSPs) and the reversible tuning of their amphiphilicity through external stimuli. These dendronized amphiphiles form supramolecular nanospheres in water and exhibit remarkable induced chirality. The assembly can be tuned by photoisomerization and thermal collapse of the dendritic oligoethylene glycols (OEGs).

Summary: In this study, Raman multivariate curve resolution (Raman-MCR) spectroscopy was used to investigate aggregate size distributions in aqueous solutions containing charged or neutral surfactants. Analysis was done with a multi-aggregation chemical potential surface (MCPS) modeling strategy. The results indicate that low-order aggregate populations gradually emerge as the critical micelle concentration (CMC) is approached, and remain nearly concentration-independent after the appearance of micelles.

Summary: This review provides a detailed introduction to 23 different classes of novel detergents, with particular focus on OGNG, LMNG, and GDN, which have been widely used in membrane protein structural studies. The review analyzes the stability of protein-detergent complexes and the interactions between detergents and proteins, and discusses the variants of OGNG, LMNG, and GDN, as well as other classes of amphiphiles. A perspective on a new detergent design is also provided.

Summary: Janus dendrimers are multifaceted systems with unique structure and properties, combining different types of end-groups on different parts of the surface. They have enhanced solubility, electrochemical properties, and self-assembly ability, distinguishing themselves from conventional dendrimers. The broken symmetry structure of Janus dendrimers offers new features for forming complex materials. They find applications in various fields including ionic liquids, bioimaging, catalysis, smart systems, drug suspensions, hydrogels, and cancer therapy.
