Summary: The activation of a hydroxyl group towards nucleophilic substitution via reaction with methanesulfonyl chloride or PPh3-CBr4 system is a commonly used pathway to synthesize various functional derivatives. The reactions of specific compounds with MsCl/NR3 or PPh3-CBr4 led to the formation of different derivatives depending on the substituent X. Subsequent alkylation and Hofmann elimination of one derivative resulted in a specific compound with 56% yield.

Summary: The high-value utilization of Camellia oleifera fruit shell (CFS) is significant for the sustainable development of the Camellia oleifera industry. This study successfully produced furfural (FF) and 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (5-HMF) from CFS using [Bmim]HSO4 catalysis in a biphasic reaction system assisted by microwave irradiation. The highest yields of FF and 5-HMF were 67.54 mol% and 20.97 mol%, respectively.

Summary: This paper reports the synthesis and characterization of ethyl (3aR,7R,7aR)-2,2-dimethyl-7-((methylsulfonyl)oxy)-3a,6,7,7a-tetrahydrobenzo [d][1,3]dioxole-5-carboxylate, which is a key intermediate of oseltamivir. The crystal structure and density functional theory (DFT) studies provide valuable insights into the potential reaction pathways for industrial applications. The DFT calculations were compared with the crystal structure determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction, showing similar results. The physicochemical properties of the compound were further investigated using DFT.

Summary: In this study, a highly efficient reaction system for the production of HMF using a combination of AC-Al and MA in a polar cosolvent was successfully established. The optimized conditions for glucose conversion to HMF were determined using response surface methodology, with a predicted molar yield of 50.3 mol% matching well with the experimentally verified yield of 45.8 mol%. Additionally, it was found that HMF yield increased with decreasing glucose concentration, suggesting that second order reactions result in the formation of humins.

Summary: In this study, a pine apple leaf fiber-cl-poly(acrylic acid-co-2-dimethyl amino ethyl acrylate) hydrogel was prepared and used as an adsorbent for dye removal from aqueous solutions. The hydrogel exhibited strong water swelling characteristics and faster deswelling properties. The adsorption of methyl violet by the hydrogel followed pseudo second order kinetics and showed high removal efficiency of 98.23% under optimum conditions.

Summary: A novel catalyst was developed for the selective hydrogenation of HMF to DMF. The catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance and high DMF yield under suitable reaction conditions. The surface acidity of the catalyst and the balance between metal and metal oxide species were found to be crucial for achieving a high yield of DMF.

Summary: The behavior of some derivatives of Meldrum's acid with mono- and biazanucleophiles was studied, resulting in the synthesis of aromatic oximes, thiosemicarbazones and hydrazones. The structures of the compounds obtained were confirmed based on H-1, C-13 NMR spectroscopy data and elemental analysis. Contrary to the common mechanism presented in the periodicals, no formation of N-heterocyclic systems was observed under the selected conditions.

Summary: Ethyl 4-(4-(dimethylamino)phenyl)-3,6-dimethyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine-5-carboxylate (5) was synthesized and its structural properties were analyzed in-depth. The structure and purity of the compound were determined by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques. The crystal structure analysis revealed the presence of hydrogen bonds and H center dot center dot center dot H interactions as the main contributors to the intermolecular stabilization.
