Summary: In this study, beta-Zn4Sb3 material was prepared by using the NaCl-flux method, allowing effective regulation of carrier concentration. The resulting samples exhibited good thermoelectric performance due to high power factor and low thermal conductivity, with a maximum ZT value of 1.4 at 673K.

Summary: Na+ toxicity is a major constraint for plants under saline conditions. Two rice species, Oryza sativa and Oryza coarctata, have different strategies in controlling Na+ uptake. Wild rice increases Na+ loading in xylem for osmotic adjustment, while cultivated rice relies on a specific gene to exclude Na+ from the roots.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of Na-Sn flux composition on the morphology and size of Na-Si clathrate crystals. The use of a flux leads to larger crystals with faceted surfaces. A Na9Sn4 solid phase precipitation inhibits the growth of Na-Si clathrate crystals at a specific ratio. Furthermore, synthesis conditions for obtaining type I crystals by conventional thermal decomposition in vacuum were established.

Summary: In this study, Cd-doped beta-Zn4Sb3 crystal was prepared using the NaCl-flux method, and the effects of Cd atoms on the crystal structure and thermoelectric properties were investigated. It was found that Cd had a significant influence on both the crystal structure and thermal properties of beta-Zn4Sb3.

Summary: Recent studies suggest that astrocyte signaling is closely linked to extracellular volume regulation and interstitial fluid drainage from the brain. Current research deviates from the classical understanding of astrocyte activity based on IP3-dependent calcium exchange, shifting focus to calcium entry from extracellular space via multiple mechanisms and widening it to include consideration of other ions.

Summary: Glutamate induces Ca2+ signaling in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) by activating intracellular mechanisms involving Na+ loads, Na+/K+-ATPase (NKA), and Na+/Ca2+-exchanger (NCX). The presence of Na+ loads leads to slower Ca2+ clearance and increased rebound Ca2+ suppression. However, even in the absence of external Na+, additional Ca2+ handlers are involved in the slower Ca2+ clearance induced by glutamate.

Summary: The electrochemical performance of NaxCl can be improved by controlling the upper limit of cut-off voltage, which introduces more Na-vacancy defects and increases capacity. The oxidation of Cl- ions released by NaCl decomposition forms Cl-based organic species, protecting the NaCl electrode from undesired side reactions at high voltage.

Summary: This study showed that application of 750μM boron mitigated the growth inhibition of sugar beet seedlings caused by 300mM NaCl and reduced the Cl- content in the plants. Boron upregulated the expression of CLC-b, CLC-c, CLC-f genes and downregulated the expression of NIP5, NIP6, and AKT1 under NaCl stress. These results suggest that exogenous boron regulates Cl- transport in sugar beet seedlings under NaCl stress.

Summary: Single crystals of rare earth borates, Na3Ln(BO3)2 and K3Ln(BO3)2, were synthesized using a boric acid/hydroxide melt. Na3Ln(BO3)2 crystallized in the monoclinic system with space group P21/n, while K3Ln(BO3)2 crystallized in the orthorhombic system with space group Pnma. The luminescence of these borates under ultraviolet and X-ray excitations was investigated for the first time, and K3Tb(BO3)2 showed the highest radioluminescence intensity.

Summary: This paper presents a unique method to monitor GaN crystal growth by measuring the electrical resistance of Ga-Na solution. The study finds that the electrical resistance of the solution decreases as the crystal grows. The decreasing rate of resistance is proportional to the growth pressure, which is influenced by the consumption of Ga in the solution and the resulting shift in composition towards Na-rich.

Summary: Potassium-dependent sodium-calcium exchangers (NCKX) play a crucial role in regulating calcium signaling and homeostasis, especially in cells and tissues with fluctuating ion concentrations. NCKX transporters can be modulated through various mechanisms, including changes in cellular location, protein expression, genetic alterations, substrate concentration, and post-translational modifications. Understanding the regulation of NCKX has the potential to provide valuable insights into transporter function and the treatment of dysregulated calcium homeostasis.
