Summary: Citrus psorosis virus (CPsV) is the main causal agent of citrus psorosis, and it is commonly diagnosed using biological indexing. This study showed that RT-qPCR is equivalent to biological indexing for diagnosing citrus psorosis, providing confidence in the quick diagnostic procedure for monitoring the health status of citrus trees.

Summary: Argentina, as a leading producer and exporter of citrus, has been exploring transgenic citrus resistant to pathogens in recent decades as part of a sustainable disease management strategy. This includes creating genetically modified organisms engineered to resist viruses and bacteria that cause diseases like tristeza, psorosis, canker, and huanglongbing. The regulatory system in Argentina has accommodated these developments, but there are still difficulties that require further recognition and analysis.

Summary: Age-related resistance to microbe invasion is a commonly accepted concept in plant pathology, but its impact is not widely recognized in the broader plant science community. This review discusses recent molecular studies and their relevance to the concept, highlighting examples of genetic differences, transcriptomics, hormonal balances, protein-mediated events, and short RNA-controlled gene silencing. The complexity of interactions is illustrated through recent findings with viral systems. While no unifying explanation is uncovered, it is proposed that plant age-related defenses are actively regulated at multiple levels to avoid wastage of resources during early developmental stages.

Summary: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play important roles in cell-to-cell communication in animals and plant-microbe interactions. The study shows that the tetraspanin family proteins PsTET1 and PsTET3 in the soybean root rot pathogen Phytophthora sojae are recognized by Nicotiana benthamiana to trigger plant immune responses. PsTET3's large extracellular loop (EC2) is recognized by N. benthamiana and soybean cells in a plant receptor-like kinase NbSERK3a/b dependent manner. This study reveals the importance of EVs in plant-microbe interactions and the ability of plants to distinguish self and non-self EVs.

Summary: This study investigates HBV genetic variants and clinically relevant mutations, as well as HDV infection in acute and chronic hepatitis B patients in central Argentina. The results show that genotype F is the most commonly found, and HDV circulation is reported for the first time in the region, highlighting the need for its diagnosis and management.

Summary: The study successfully constructed full-length infectious cDNA clones of Citrus yellow mottle-associated virus (CiYMaV) and confirmed its pathogenicity in citrus plants. The results are of great significance for further understanding the molecular mechanisms of virus infection and developing viral vectors for expressing foreign genes in citrus plants.

Summary: This study demonstrates a detailed methodology for inoculating Phytophthora capsici on black pepper plants, providing a reference for woody vine plant inoculation. By damaging the basal head of the black pepper plant and covering the holes with mycelial pellets, this method offers a better solution to the instability caused by traditional inoculation methods.

Summary: The study focuses on utilizing RNA interference to enhance resistance of tomato plants to pepino mosaic virus (PepMV). Transgenic tomato lines expressing high levels of transgene-siRNA showed immunity to various PepMV strains, including a new Israeli isolate. This engineered immunity was maintained even after graft inoculation, demonstrating the potential of gene silencing in providing broad resistance to diverse PepMV strains in transgenic tomato plants.

Summary: The replication cycles of most simple-stranded positive RNA viruses infecting plants involve endomembrane deformations. Recent research has uncovered interactions between viral proteins and plant proteins related to vesicle formation and movement, with plant proteins from COPI/II, SNARE, clathrin, and ESCRT endomembrane trafficking mechanisms implicated. Certain variants of these plant proteins have been found to confer virus resistance, and strategies for quickly identifying variant alleles for membrane-associated proteins have been highlighted in this review.

Summary: This study investigated the resistance of transgenic sugar beet plants against Rhizomania by expressing anti-P21 scFv fusion proteins targeted towards different subcellular compartments. The results showed that the expression levels of antibodies and resistance levels were positively correlated, with the highest rates of resistance observed in plants expressing scFv targeted towards the apoplast or cytosol.
