Summary: This study reports the development of transient Horner's syndrome in horses following local anesthesia of the cervical plexus. Out of 37 horses, 14% developed obvious clinical signs postoperatively, with profuse unilateral sweating of the head and upper neck being the most apparent symptom.

Summary: A recent study published in the British Journal of Anaesthesia explores the role of artificial intelligence in ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia. The researchers found that non-experts' ability to identify key sono-anatomical structures was improved with the assistance of proprietary AI software. Further studies are needed to determine whether such software could enhance learning efficiency and increase patient access to regional anaesthesia.

Summary: The current fourth industrial revolution is characterized by the blurring of physics, computing, and biology, driven by data and artificial intelligence. In the field of regional anaesthesia, the application of artificial intelligence is limited, but new technologies such as robotics and artificial sensing may have an impact. The future of robotics in anaesthesia includes pharmaceutical, mechanical, and cognitive robots, with a focus on developing accurate sensors and providing training in augmented reality environments.

Summary: This case report describes the successful use of intravenous regional anesthesia with 1% lidocaine for digit amputation in a black-headed vulture. The pre-anesthetic medication provided analgesia and sedation, and the anesthesia induction and maintenance were achieved with mask induction and isoflurane. Bier's block using 5mg/kg lidocaine was safe and effective during the surgery, with the patient remaining stable throughout the procedure.

Summary: This case report describes a 73-year-old male who developed methemoglobinemia after undergoing transesophageal echocardiography. The patient had used topical lidocaine before the procedure and improved with methylene blue treatment. This highlights the importance of considering methemoglobinemia in patients presenting with cyanosis, altered mental status, and hypoxia following endoscopic procedures.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic mechanism of Salvia miltiorrhiza (SM) on stroke using a tMCAO mouse model. Results showed that SM administration significantly reduced acute brain injury, restored brain metabolites, inhibited ferroptosis, and alleviated synaptic and neuronal loss. Additionally, it improved neurological deficits, survival rates, and post-stroke cognitive impairment.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of using i-gel and AuraGain as conduits for bronchoscopic intubation. The results showed no difference in the total time for airway management between the two devices, but there was a difference in the time for placement of the devices. Although the AuraGain group had more failed intubations, the difference was not significant.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the impairment of default mode network (DMN) reactivity in stroke patients with impaired consciousness using routine EEG recordings. The findings revealed DMN impairment in coma patients following an acute stroke, and the method used in this study could effectively detect it. This discovery is significant for monitoring DMN function at bedside.

Summary: The repeatability and suitability of MScanFit motor unit number estimation (MUNE) for multicentre studies were assessed. MScanFit-2, a revised version designed to accommodate different muscles and recording conditions, showed more consistency between centres compared to MScanFit-1. It is recommended to use MScanFit-2 for analysis, and the tibialis anterior muscle provided the most stable MUNE values. The importance rating for this study is 8.
