Summary: We have prepared single crystal Nd0.8Pr0.2FeO3 and investigated the effect of Pr-doping on its magnetic properties. The Pr-doping lowered the spin reorientation transition temperature range and exhibited excellent properties in spin switching. Different types of spin switching events were observed in Nd0.8Pr0.2FeO3, and a significant magnetic entropy change was observed at low temperatures and high magnetic fields.

Summary: Single crystal Nd0.8Pr0.2FeO3 was prepared using the optical floating zone method, and the effect of Pr-doping on its magnetic properties was investigated. 20% Pr3+ doping exhibited superior spin switching performance at lower temperatures. These results provide a better understanding of the doped magnetic anisotropy in RFeO3 and offer new possibilities in the application of magnetic switching materials under low magnetic fields.

Summary: The magnetic behavior of a rare-earth orthoferrite ErFeO3 single crystal can be controlled by low magnetic fields, with two types of spin switching observed below the spin reorientation transition temperature. The applied magnetic fields can regulate the spin switching along the a-axis of the single crystal, while understanding the magnetic reversal effects can help explore potential applications in information devices.

Summary: Non-magnetic Ga3+ doping in HoCrO3 triggers a new spin-reorientation transition and changes the crystal structure, electronic structure, Raman spectra, and magnetic behaviors. The dilution of magnetic couplings and appearance of complex magnetic transitions are observed with Ga3+ doping. Additionally, Ga3+ doping improves the magneto-caloric effect and refrigerant capacity, providing insights for optimizing MCE properties.

Summary: The mechanism of spin reorientation in Nd2Fe14B, the host crystal of neodymium permanent magnets, was investigated using first-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulations. It was found that the spin reorientation in Nd2Fe14B is caused by Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions, which have been often ignored in rare-earth bulk systems. This study also discovered that the spin reorientation in Nd2Fe14B results in the rotating magnetocaloric effect, which has potential practical applications. Moreover, the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions non-negligibly affect the physical properties of magnetic materials.

Summary: The magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of Nd0.5Dy0.5CrO3 have been studied. The Cr3+ magnetic moments exhibit an antiferromagnetic ordering below 180 K and a spin reorientation at around 60 K. Negative magnetization is observed below 5 K. The maximum magnetic entropy change is found to be 8.71 J kg(-1) K-1 at 7.3 K and 10 T. The experimentally obtained values are in agreement with the theoretically calculated values.

Summary: The magnetocaloric properties of the NdAlGe single crystal with I4(1)md structure were investigated. It was found that the magnetization of the crystal was highly anisotropic, with stable antiferromagnetic transition along the a-axis and spin reorientation at low temperature. The abrupt change of the magnetic entropy during the metamagnetic transition resulted in a significant magnetocaloric effect.

Summary: In perovskite structure YbFeO3 single crystal, a spin reorientation transition and a spin switching transition were reported. The spin reorientation occurs in the temperature range of 6-8 K, while the spin switching is found at around 20 K. At various temperatures above 8 K, magnetic field induced spin switching is observed.

Summary: Single crystal Er0.4Gd0.6FeO3 (EGFO) with special magnetic characteristics, including nonzero spontaneous magnetic moment along crystalline b-axis and 2-fold spin reorientation transition, was grown by optical floating-zone method. The phenomenon is unusual for most of rare-earth orthoferrites and the transition result from the competitions of different interactions at different temperature areas. The work is meaningful for further studying the physical phenomenons in RFeO3 and their potential applications.

Summary: A high-quality TmFeO3 single crystal with a length of 50 mm was successfully prepared using a four-mirror optical floating zone furnace. The crystal's quality and orientation were determined using an X-ray diffractometer and Laue back reflection camera. The magnetic properties of the crystal were systematically studied, revealing a spin reorientation transition and temperature-induced spin switching not previously reported. These findings suggest the crystal's potential application in future spintronic devices, as the triggering temperatures of the spin switching can be controlled by adjusting external magnetic fields.

Summary: Metal dihalides, such as NiBr2, exhibit promising semiconducting and magnetic behavior on Au(111) substrates, showing potential for applications in tunneling junctions and low-dimensional devices. Experiments using various techniques revealed competing layer structures of NiBr2 at the interface, with a magnetically ordered state below 27K attributed to a non-collinear magnetic structure in the single layer.

Summary: By using plasma polymerization technique, polymeric coatings synthesized on the surface of basalt fibres significantly improved the interlaminar shear strength of composites. Successful deposition of polymer sizing was confirmed by the increase in carbon and oxygen peaks. Single fibre dynamic contact angle tests indicated that the increase in basalt fibre surface energy is correlated with the improvement in interfacial adhesion.

Summary: Diodes are important elements in electronics and optics, and their evolution towards low dissipation electronics has led to the development of supercurrent diodes with zero resistance in one direction. In this study, researchers demonstrate a superconducting tunnel diode with zero conductance in one direction by utilizing a thin ferromagnetic insulator. This cryogenic spintronic rectifier shows promise in highly-sensitive radiation detection and future low-dissipation and fast superconducting electronics.

Summary: We identify and manipulate commonly occurring defects in black phosphorus using scanning tunneling microscopy experiments and density functional theory calculations. We found a ubiquitous defect and determined its atomic origin, and demonstrated that its configuration and magnetic properties can be modified by applying electrical pulses. By analyzing the states projected onto individual layers, we obtained more detailed information about bias-dependent features in the STM images.

Summary: The research focuses on the spin splitting phenomenon in ferromagnetic insulator/superconductor bilayers and its significance for superconducting spintronics and Majorana fermion realization. The study determines the impact of the thickness of the superconductor layer on the magnitude of spin splitting, as well as the range of parameters suitable for coexisting exchange field and superconductivity. By comparing theory with experimental results, the accuracy and importance of the theory are confirmed.
