Summary: A facile method for synthesizing highly monodisperse single-crystalline gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) using universal seeds has been reported. The single crystallinity of particles is achieved by oxidative etching and controlled surface capping by silver atoms. The resulting Au NPs show uniform single crystallinity, high shape yield, and low size polydispersity, demonstrating the importance of seed uniformity in the synthesis process.

Summary: The synthesis of gold nanorods requires the presence of symmetry-breaking and shape-directing additives, such as bromide ions and quaternary ammonium surfactants. By using hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) as the principal surfactant and a low concentration of bromide, gold nanorods can be synthesized at temperatures as low as 8 degrees C, allowing for temperature-controlled aspect ratio tunability.

Summary: In this study, hierarchical zinc oxide nanostructures, consisting of nanosheets, were synthesized using a 3D-printed device in a continuous flow without surfactant or template. The resulting ZnO samples had a hexagonal pure phase composed of hierarchical 3D nanosheets. The study investigated the effect of reaction time on the sample morphology and demonstrated the potential of these 3D ZnO nanostructures for sensing applications.

Summary: The study introduces a green synthesis method for TiO2 NPs using extracts from black pepper, coriander, and clove for the first time. Characterizations confirmed the similarity index of all three samples, while differences were highlighted in photoluminescence and vibrating sample magnetometer studies. The findings suggest that different plant extracts can result in TiO2 NPs with moderately different characteristics.

Summary: The use of nano-inclusion to strengthen polymeric materials has the potential to achieve high specific strength. However, the commercial application of such nano-composites is limited due to high cost and unwanted aggregation of nanoparticles. In this study, a scalable and economical synthesis method for TiO2 nanoparticles, without surfactants, was proposed. The synthesized nanoparticles showed self-dispersed behavior and enabled the production of gram-scale quantities. The incorporation of these nanoparticles into unsaturated polyester resin resulted in a composite with significantly improved mechanical properties, attributed to strong interface and superior dispersion of nanoparticles.

Summary: In this study, NaA zeolite nanocrystalline aggregates with a size of 6 nm were successfully synthesized for the first time by refluxing at near room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The synthesized samples were characterized using various techniques, including X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms. The results showed that the synthesized NaA zeolite had high crystallinity and specific surface area, making them ideal for further development.

Summary: Understanding the interaction of ions with charged silica nanoparticles is crucial for producing gels and determining long term stability. In mixtures, monovalent ions generally follow the Hofmeister series, but divalent ions do not. At pH < 9, mixtures of divalent and monovalent salts follow the normal Hofmeister series, while at pH > 9 a reversal is observed.

Summary: The role of nanoparticle shape in the interaction and adsorption of organic molecules on the particle surface is explored in this study. The results show that the shape of silica nanoparticles significantly affects the interaction of water molecules, counter-ions, and organic molecules, which consequently determine the adsorption behavior of organic molecules on the nanoparticle surface.

Summary: Plastics, especially nano-sized particles, pose a serious threat to marine and freshwater life. A modeling study using molecular dynamics simulations was conducted to investigate the interactions between natural organic matter and carboxylated polystyrene nano-plastics under different pH conditions. The simulations revealed strong interactions between the molecules at pH-4 but weak interactions at pH-7, while moderate interactions were observed at pH-9. The presence of saltwater enhanced the interactions between the particles and molecules. The simulations also provided insights into the surface charge density of the nano-plastics and the formation of an eco-corona on plastic nanoparticles.

Summary: The study found that impurities commonly seen in the synthesis of MOF-235(Fe) may be due to the simultaneous formation of MIL-101(Fe) during the solvothermal treatment. The content of MOF-235 and MIL-101 directly influences their surface area, and an optimized synthesis method can yield pure MOF-235 product and high-surface area MIL-101.
