Summary: This work pioneers a new manufacturing platform for producing ordered mesoporous materials through direct pyrolysis of crosslinked thermoplastic elastomer-based block copolymers. It demonstrates that this process can be extended to different polymer precursors for synthesizing mesoporous polymer, carbon, and silica. The obtained carbons possess large mesopores and sulfur-doped carbon framework, with tailorable pore textures upon varying the precursor identities.

Summary: Recently, a simple method has been reported to prepare highly stretchable and tough hydrogels that are photodegradable on-demand. These hydrogels exhibit remarkable mechanical properties due to the combination of ionic and covalent crosslinking, as well as the reduction of the PEG backbone length. The authors successfully used these hydrogels as skin-worn sensors for monitoring human respiration and physical activities, showing great potential for applications in bioelectronics, biosensors, wearable computing, and stretchable electronics.

Summary: Incorporating redox-active quinones with linkers to form covalent organic frameworks (COFs) can effectively enhance their electrochemical performances, increase specific capacities, and improve cycling stability and rate performance; by replacing all replaceable -Cl sites in the linker with redox-active moieties, the content of electroactive moieties in the framework can be significantly increased; DAAQ-HCCP COF as an anode for sodium-ion batteries exhibits higher cycling stability and outstanding rate performance.

Summary: Anionic living polymerization was used to prepare a diblock copolymer of poly(styrene-b-4-vinyl pyridine) (PS-b-P4VP), and a phenolic resin with a double-decker silsesquioxane (DDSQ) cage structure was used to form a phenolic/DDSQ hybrid (PDDSQ-30 with 30 wt.% DDSQ). Strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding was confirmed between the hydroxyl (OH) groups of PDDSQ hybrid and the pyridine group of the P4VP block in PDDSQ-30/PS-b-P4VP blends based on Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses. The self-assembled structures of these blends were revealed by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), showing increased d-spacing with higher PDDSQ concentration. After removal of the PS-b-P4VP template, long-range ordered mesoporous PDDSQ hybrids with high surface area and pore volume were obtained, displaying cylindrical and spherical structures suitable for supercapacitor applications.

Summary: In this study, ordered mesoporous carbon material CMK-5 was easily synthesized using SBA-15 as template and oxalic acid as polymerization catalyst, without the need for modifying the SBA-15 template. The synthesized CMK-5 sample exhibited an ordered bimodal mesoporous structure, as confirmed by various analysis techniques. The CO2 capture performance of the CMK-5-0.75 material was found to be superior compared to other ordered mesoporous samples.
