Summary: Numerous studies have shown that purine derivatives such as caffeine and uric acid have neuroprotective properties and are associated with a lower risk of neurodegenerative diseases. The mechanisms of these protective effects involve adenosine A(2A) receptor antagonism and antioxidant activity. A recent study found that another purine derivative, paraxanthine, also has similar neuroprotective effects. These purine derivatives work by increasing neuronal glutathione levels in the brain.

Summary: A 1,2-difunctionalization reaction of cyclic enol ethers mediated by bis(arylsulfonyl) peroxides is reported. Bis(nosyl) peroxide selectively adds a sulfonyl group at the 3-position of enol ethers, generating an oxocarbenium ion that is trapped by a carboxylic acid nucleophile at the 2-position. The reaction proceeds with good yield and tolerates a variety of cyclic enol ethers as well as different carboxylic acids as the oxocarbenium ion trapping reagents.

Summary: Covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) based on polydentate ligands are promising catalyst supports that combine the reactivity of homogeneous catalysts with the robustness and recyclability of heterogeneous ones. In this study, a rhodium (III) complex was immobilized on a bipyridine-based CTF for the transfer hydrogenation of N-heteroarenes in water using sodium formate as the hydrogen source. The immobilized catalyst showed excellent activity for various quinoxalines and other N-heteroarenes, and maintained high activity during recycling, making it suitable for continuous flow synthesis.

Summary: Allenes with different substituents at their terminal carbon atom exhibit axial chirality and can be obtained in enantiopure form through a photochemical deracemization protocol. This study investigates the conditions under which allenoic acid derivatives undergo a Diels-Alder reaction with 1,3-cyclopentadienes and the resulting products. Cyclic derivatives (lactams, lactones) exhibited an exo-selective reaction catalyzed by the Lewis acid Eu(fod)(3), while acyclic derivatives mainly produced endo-products (with EtAlCl2 as the preferred Lewis acid). The exocyclic double bond exhibited excellent diastereoselectivity and achieved near-perfect chirality transfer. The method was successfully applied to the synthesis of sesquiterpenes beta-santalol (1) and 10(E)-beta-santalic acid (13).

Summary: In this study, the use of colloid supported lipid bilayers (CSLBs) for assembling colloidal structures is explored. It is found that the curvature anisotropy of the colloids drives a sorting of the lipids in the membrane. This property is then utilized to create shape-anisotropic patchy colloids, which enables the directed assembly of colloidal links and opens up possibilities for creating heterogeneous and flexible colloidal structures.

Summary: Seven hydrazide-functionalised triphenylenedicarboxyimides (TDIs) with different polar substitutes connected to the imide N atom were studied to investigate the impact of hydrogen bonding and polar substituents on their mesomorphic properties. It was found that hydrogen bonding was not strong enough to stabilize the columnar mesophase, while dipole-dipole effects favored mesophase stabilities. Additionally, the position of lateral substituents had a significant impact on self-assembly by affecting the overall dipole moment.

Summary: This article describes the synthesis and self-assembly behavior of a series of ten optically active triphenylenedicarboxyimide (TDI) derivatives with a stereogenic center. The TDIs show an enantiotropic hexagonal columnar mesophase with high clearing temperatures. Chiral supramolecular structures are observed in the columnar mesophase of three pairs of chiral TDIs. The axially connected aromatic ring at the stereocenter provides steric repulsion upon stacking, leading to the formation of chiral supramolecular structures. The configuration of the stereogenic center is not the only factor responsible for inducing helical structures in solution.

Summary: The study found that IL-1 alpha is significantly increased in NP tissues of CRSwNP patients in China and is mainly located in epithelial cells and neutrophils. IL-1 alpha in polyp tissues is associated with the production of IL-8, IL-1 beta, IL-6, IL-4, and IL-13, as well as tissue neutrophil infiltration. In vitro experiments showed that several stimuli, including poly (I:C), lipopolysaccharides, Flagellin, R848, and cytokines (IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13), increase the expression of IL-1 alpha in cultured NECs, and recombinant IL-1 alpha promotes the production of IL-8 and CXCL1.

Summary: For metastatic colorectal cancer patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive (HER2+ mCRC), anti-HER2 therapy has shown benefits, but the current HER2 testing using tumor biopsy is controversial. Noninvasive enumeration and HER2 phenotyping on circulating tumor cells (CTCs) may provide more accurate HER2 diagnosis. This study assessed HER2((0/1+/2+/3+)) CTCs using TUMORFISHER in 40 mCRC patients (20 HER2+; 20 HER2-negative) and found that CTC enumeration and ctcHER2 phenotyping could be prognostic and predictive biomarkers for HER2+ mCRC with anti-HER2 therapy.
