Summary: Human skin contains two distinct components: eumelanin and pheomelanin. Eumelanin consists of DHI and DHICA, while pheomelanin consists of BT and BZ. Specific degradation products can be used to quantitatively analyze these melanin monomer units. The ratio of DHI to DHICA is constant regardless of the degree of pigmentation, and the high content of DHICA may provide an antioxidant property to the epidermal melanin.

Summary: The effect of weathering exposure on the optical absorption characteristics of LDPE grad-LA071 has been investigated. It has been found that the optical absorption of LDPE grad-LA071 decreases exponentially with wavelength in different durations of time. In addition, the optical absorption increases significantly with exposure time, especially at high frequencies, suggesting that LDPE grad-LA071 is a practical candidate for a selective filter for UV light. Therefore, it can be used as a UV light mask in semiconductor devices and as a protective shield for solar cells. Furthermore, the LDPE grad-LA071 film can be used in packaging to extend the lifespan of various items.

Summary: The study evaluated the influence of different Nd2O3 doping contents on the physical and optical properties of glasses, showing that Nd2O3 content affects properties such as density, ion concentration, and refractive indices. Analysis of FTIR spectra and emission spectra revealed the presence of structural units in the glasses and electronic transition characteristics of Nd3+, respectively. The proposed glass system demonstrated high sensitivity to changes in Nd2O3 contents.

Summary: DPA's Raman and absorption spectra exhibit significant changes with varying pH, and the pKa values were determined experimentally. Fluorescence emission of DPA also shows a shift with pH, indicating the need to consider the different spectral responses from the three ionic forms of DPA in spectral analysis and detection applications.

Summary: This study quantified four UV filters used in cosmetics by spectroelectochemistry. Electrochemical activity of the filters resulted in modification of their absorption spectrum. Combining spectral deconvolution of spectra pairs was more accurate in identifying and quantifying UV filters than deconvolution of initial absorbance spectrum alone.

Summary: This study reports a novel discovery that embedding actinide elements into coinage metal rings can lead to the formation of near-plane superatoms capable of Z-type tilted quasi-one-dimensional (1D) direct assembly. The success can be attributed to strong bonding between overlapping parts of adjacent superatomic motifs. First-principles calculations show that the motifs maintain their geometric and electronic structures robustly during the assembly process. The absorption spectra demonstrate continuously tunable features and a hyperchromic effect, which is closely related to the participation of Th atoms and the interlayer stacking pattern.

Summary: The compressive properties of powder metallurgy-based porous aluminum composites were optimized by adjusting the diamond content, PMMA particle content, and PMMA particle size. Through experimental design and analysis, it was found that diamond content and PMMA particle size had a significant impact on compressive properties. Further optimization revealed that maximum compressive properties could be achieved with specific parameter levels: diamond content of 12 wt.%, PMMA particle size of 150 μm, and PMMA particle content of 25 wt.%. Confirmation tests showed improved results and further emphasized the importance of these parameters in controlling the compressive properties of Al composites.

Summary: In this study, the effects of replacing Mo with Cr atoms on the lattice structure, energy bands, and light absorption properties of 2D monolayer MoSi2N4 were systematically investigated using density functional theory (DFT) and the Vienna Ab initio Simulation Package (VASP). The results showed that Cr atoms can effectively modulate the electron accumulation and light absorption properties of the material, providing a strategy for designing new 2D materials with high absorption properties.
