Summary: The highly distorted octabromo-4-sulfonatophenyl porphyrin readily forms J-aggregates in acidic solution, exhibiting a bathochromic shift and tilted structure; computational analysis reveals the effect of protonation on conformation and stability of the diacid species; experimental observations show the globular shape of J-aggregates.

Summary: The study found that the aggregation of TPPS4 affects its excited-state lifetimes and quantum yields, but does not reduce the contact between the quencher and the excited aggregate. J-aggregates also do not change the contribution of energy transfer mechanisms to triplet state quenching by molecular oxygen. By producing singlet oxygen, having intense absorption in the phototherapeutic window, and efficiently converting light energy into heat, J-aggregates are considered a theranostic agent for photomedicine.

Summary: Photodynamic therapy shows potential as a new and effective cancer treatment, although the molecular mechanism remains unclear. This study used molecular docking simulations to predict the binding affinity between a photosensitizer and potential targets in photodynamic treatment. Results indicate that the photosensitizer can bind to multiple receptor targets, including BCL-2 and related proteins. Additionally, it was found that the photosensitizer can bind to human serum albumin and potentially inhibit cancer cells through interactions with specific residues or by its free energy of binding.

Summary: Due to the special interest and unique advantage of bovine serum albumin, we conducted research on the effects of bovine serum albumin on the photophysical properties of meso-tetrakis(sulfonatophenyl) porphyrin. We used a picosecond pulse laser source with specific parameters and a generalized five-level model for theoretical analysis. The results showed that meso-tetrakis(sulfonatophenyl) porphyrin exhibited prominent optical limiting effects, with slight weakening when bound with bovine serum albumin.

Summary: This study investigated the conjugation of chitosan with the insulin-mimetic VO(tpps) in an aqueous medium. The conjugate formation was found to be attributed to the electrostatic interaction between the NH3+ units of chitosan and the SO3- units of VO(tpps). It was also found that chitosan enhances the stability of VO(tpps) in water. The conjugation reaction was best explained by pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models.

Summary: Under specific conditions, TPPS4 can self-organize into J-aggregates, where porphyrins align in an edge-to-edge geometry. The self-assembly is hierarchical and the kinetics depend on the mixing protocols. The rate-determining step is an autocatalytic growth leading to the formation of J-aggregates of varying sizes, influenced by experimental parameters and different ionic species.

Summary: In this study, the densities and viscosities of binary mixtures of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide, [bmim][NTf2], and ethylene glycol (EG) were experimentally measured. A first-order polynomial and Vogel-FulcherTammann equation were used to estimate the densities and viscosities of the mixtures, respectively. The excess molar volume, viscosity, and Gibbs energy of activation for viscous flow were calculated and fitted to the Redlich-Kister equation. The thermal expansion coefficients and partial and apparent molar volumes of [bmim][NTf2] and EG in their binary mixtures were also investigated.

Summary: By using time-of-flight neutron spectroscopy with polarization analysis, this study separated coherent and incoherent contributions to the scattering of deuterated tetrahydrofuran. The comparison with water reveals similar phenomenology, indicating the influence of inter-molecular interactions on dynamics. The study shows a crossover in the structural relaxation and different characteristic times for collective and self-motions compared to water.

Summary: The co-production of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) and ethylene glycol (EG) via transesterification of ethylene carbonate (EC) has been studied using metal chloride-based ionic liquids (ILs) as catalysts. The interaction between cation and methanol, as well as the activation of carbonyl group in EC by metal chloride-contained anion, showed synergistic effects on catalytic transesterification. The reaction rates were affected by the steric hindrance effect of the alkyl group substituted at the N atom in the imidazole ring. The Al2Cl7 species in AlCl3-based IL exhibited activity in the transesterification, and its content showed a linear relationship with the transformative rates of both EC and HEMC. The kinetic studies revealed that the reaction rates were first-order dependent on the concentrations of EC (or HEMC) and methanol, and the formation of HEMC intermediate was the kinetic-relevant step. The catalysis of [MDMIM]Cl/AlCl3 with an AlCl3 molar fraction of 0.67 showed higher performance compared to other metal chloride-based ILs, with a yield and selectivity of DMC (or EG) reaching up to 95% and 97%, respectively, after 12 hours of reaction at 140 degrees C. The IL also demonstrated good recyclability without decay in catalytic activity and selectivity after 10 times' recycling.

Summary: By adjusting pH, constituent amino acids, and temperature, the chiral self-assembly behavior of meso-tetrakis (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin-amino acid molecules can be precisely controlled, leading to chiral nanostructures with precisely tailored helical pitch and handedness, which provides a certain reference for the design and preparation of chiral nanomaterials and has potential application prospects.

Summary: The ion dynamics of null solvents consisting of 1ZnCl2:4EtG and 1ChCl:1ZnCl2:6EtG with the incorporation of 1M water, propylene carbonate (PC) or acetonitrile (AcN) were investigated. Various measurements, including 1H NMR spectra, spin-lattice relaxation time (T1) measurements, ionic conductivity, density and viscosity, were conducted to study the properties as a function of temperature. The results revealed increased free volume and dynamic heterogeneities in the mixtures, as well as selective interactions between hydrogen bond donors and acceptors, as well as with the co-solvents.
