Summary: This study systematically investigates the submonolayer coverage of alkali atoms (Na, K, Cs) on hydrated Cu(111) surface with different water molecule concentrations. The results show a gradual detachment of alkali from the surface with increasing hydration, leading to a linear decrease in charge transfer to the substrate. Furthermore, the orientation of water dipoles towards the surface causes a gradual increase in the substrate's work function as the number of coordinated water molecules increases.

Summary: Alkali cadmium phosphate glasses doped with erbium ions were prepared using traditional melt-quenching technique. The structure and optical properties of the doped glasses were investigated using FTIR, Raman, and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopies. The Judd-Ofelt theory was used to analyze the structural changes and calculate radiative parameters. The results showed that the glasses had good suitability for laser and amplifier applications.

Summary: By pre-intercalating alkali ions and water crystals into layered delta-MnO2, ultra-thin nanosheets of K0.27MnO2∙0.54H2O (KMO) and Na0.55Mn2O4∙1.5H2O were prepared, which act as pillars to stabilize the structures and enable rapid cation diffusion in the KMO structure, leading to high power capability and good cycling stability. The charge storage mechanism of KMO in an aqueous Zn-ion battery involves (de)intercalation of H3O+ with further dissolution-precipitation of Zn-4(OH)6(SO4)∙5H2O solid product on the KMO surface, as revealed by electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance measurements and in-operando X-ray diffraction techniques.

Summary: In the investigated glass system, the optical absorption of Cr ions decreases as the Li2O content increases, along with a decrease in crystal field strength and a reverse trend in Racah parameters B and C. The presence of both Cr6+ and Cr3+ states in the alkali borate glass were indicated by ESR signals, while FTIR spectra showed vibrations of B-O bonds and allowed for estimation of N-4 fraction utilizing IR parameters. Minor changes in bond angles and lengths of borate structural units post γ-irradiation indicated slight diversity in IR band intensities.

Summary: The development of low-cost, high-efficiency, and environmentally friendly adsorbents for the removal of antibiotics and heavy metal ions in water is urgently needed. Phosphorylated alkali lignin (PAL) microparticles were successfully fabricated via a simple one-pot method, showing great potential in adsorption of pollutants such as levofloxacin hydrochloride (LH) and lead ions (Pb(II)). The results demonstrated that PAL had a strong ability to remove complex pollutants, with high adsorption capacity and removal percentage for various contaminants in water.

Summary: In this study, GO membranes regulated by different ions were prepared. The introduction of alkali metal ions improved the conductivity of RGO membranes, while the introduction of alkaline earth metal ions decreased their conductivity. Additionally, the introduction of ions resulted in significantly different changes in luminescence spectra and microwave reduction effects. These findings have potentially important applications in the preparation, application, and ion detection of GO membranes.

Summary: C-(A)-S-H phases with different C/S molar ratios were synthesized using the alkali-activation method and heavy metal ions were added. The effects of heavy metal ions on the structure of C-(A)-S-H were investigated using various analytical techniques. It was found that heavy metals could be immobilized through precipitation of insoluble compounds or by replacing Ca2+ ions in the aluminosilicate structure. Another possibility was the incorporation of heavy metal ions at the tetrahedral sites of silicon and/or aluminum.
