Summary: The study found that Coptidis Rhizoma (CR) decreased the metabolism and absorption of flavonoids in Scutellariae Radix (SR), especially exerting different effects on aglycones and glycosides. This may be one of the potential mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of the combination of SR and CR on diabetes mellitus.

Summary: Scutellariae radix (Huang-Qin in Chinese) is a commonly used traditional herbal medicine, which is extensively used as an adjuvant treatment for COVID-19 patients in China. This research explored the potential active components and mechanisms of Scutellariae radix for the treatment of COVID-19 using network pharmacology, LC-MS based plant metabolomics, and in vitro bioassays. The results showed that baicalein is the most crucial active component of Scutellariae radix for treating COVID-19, and KuQin outperforms ZiQin in the treatment.

Summary: This study successfully revealed the differential distribution of phytochemicals in Scutellariae Radix and its substitute, Scutellariae Amoenae Radix, using microscopic mass spectrometry imaging. Additionally, the accumulation sites of baicalein, baicalin, wogonin, and wogonoside in Scutellariae Radix were uncovered. The application of microscopic mass spectrometry imaging and matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-quadrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry provided a novel perspective for the discovery of natural compounds within medicinal plants.

Summary: The study revealed that the leaves of Crataegus songorica, Crataegus altaica, and Crataegus kansuensis have rich resources in Xinjiang, China, but there have been few studies on their edible and medicinal value, as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis of flavonoid compounds. A validated quantitative method was successfully developed to analyze the content of eight flavonoids compounds in the leaves of these species for the first time, with unique compounds identified in Crataegus songorica compared to the other two species.
