Summary: SERINC5 incorporation into HIV-1 particles inhibits virus-cell fusion mediated by Env glycoprotein. The study found that SERINC5-resistant HIV-1 strains showed slower inactivation compared to sensitive strains. Mutations that destabilize the closed Env structure decreased the sensitivity to SERINC5, while CD4 binding increased the sensitivity. Additionally, SERINC5 was found to stabilize the closed trimeric Env structure and enhance the potency of a small molecule inhibitor targeting this structure.

Summary: This study synthesized a TAFTN nano-composite and used photo-induced ROS stress for photocatalytic bacterial inactivation. The disrupted proteins were found to be related to bacterial death during TAFTN-photocatalysis under sunlight. The toxicity analysis confirmed that the inactivated bacteria had no detrimental impact on a zebrafish model, and the TAFTN-photocatalysis showed consistent efficacy in killing bacterial cells in natural seawater.

Summary: The analysis of immunosuppressant drugs using liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) is considered the gold standard. Automated systems, such as the Thermo Scientific(TM) Cascadion(TM) SM Clinical Analyzer, eliminate manual processes and provide efficient and accurate results. The comparison of LC-MS/MS with the automated system showed a good correlation between the two methods.

Summary: This study comprehensively compared the protein profiles and properties of chicken egg white and its three components. The proteomes of thick and thin egg white are similar, but thick egg white has higher abundance of ovomucin subunits and lysozymes. The properties of thick and thin egg white are significantly different. Additionally, the chalaza component has higher abundance of insoluble proteins and lower abundance of soluble proteins, which explains its insolubility. These findings are important for further research and development of egg white, such as thinning of egg white, understanding changes in egg white properties, and differential application of thick and thin egg white.

Summary: This study compared the analysis of carbohydrates using four common chromatographic methods coupled to mass spectrometry. It was found that gas chromatography and reversed-phase liquid chromatography, after derivatisation, showed superior separation performance compared to the other methods. Targeted analysis using different working modes of the mass spectrometer improved sensitivity and repeatability, with RP-LC-MS in MRM mode after derivatisation being the most suitable method for monosaccharide analysis.

The results showed that plantamajoside was rapidly metabolized into various active metabolites in the gut microbiota. Moreover, plantamajoside was found to affect short-chain fatty acid and tryptophan metabolism. These findings are significant for understanding the pharmacological effects of plantamajoside.

Summary: This study aimed to identify differential expression of peptides associated with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients using LC-MS/MS analysis. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that these differentially expressed peptides might be associated with MHC class I protein binding and pathogenic Escherichia coli infection pathways, which might further affect the progression of AS. Three differentially expressed peptides were identified that could significantly promote the proliferation of fibroblasts in AS patients.

Summary: In this study, the quality of Yiqing tablet was comprehensively evaluated using multi-component quantification, multi-dimensional fingerprint construction, and antioxidant activity analysis. The results showed that the sample had 25 components with antioxidant activity according to the HPLC fingerprint and most bands of FTIR also showed antioxidant activity. Based on the evaluation results of HPLC and FTIR fingerprint, all samples were classified as first level, demonstrating the consistency of sample quality. This study provides a new idea for achieving comprehensive quality evaluation of traditional Chinese medicines.

Summary: This work presents a simple, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly method for determining the content of multiple elements in medicinal herbs using ICP OES. The optimized experimental parameters result in low dissolved organic carbon content and residual acidity concentration. The accuracy of the method is confirmed through the analysis of certified reference materials, and its environmental friendliness is validated using the AGREE metric. Principal component analysis is used to classify the medicinal herbs based on their inorganic constituent concentrations.

Summary: This study investigated the cellular uptake of low, medium and high molecular weight polyethylene glycol (PEG) in MCF-7 cells using UPLC-MS/MS and CID techniques. The results showed that PEG600, PEG2K, PEG4K and PEG10K exhibited low toxicity and had limited cellular entry at concentrations of 5-1200 μg/mL. Additionally, the environmental friendliness of the developed analytical methods was evaluated.

Summary: This study employed network pharmacology-based analysis and reverse molecular docking to investigate the molecular targets and pathways associated with gynecological disorders and the potential therapeutic effects of fenugreek constituents. The results highlighted the potential of steroidal saponins, isoflavones, and flavones as active constituents of fenugreek with implications for lactation, reproductive processes, and estrogenic activity. Animal model study further supported the presence of these bioactive compounds and their effects on body weight, serum prolactin levels, serum estradiol levels, and ovarian histological structure.
