Summary: This study evaluates the impact of health insurance coverage for assisted reproductive technology (ART) on multiple pregnancies and births in Korea. The findings indicate that the implementation of the health insurance coverage policy has significantly increased the likelihood of multiple pregnancies and births in Korea, suggesting that the development and coverage of policies to support couples experiencing infertility may help address low fertility rates.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between gestational weight gain (GWG) and the size of infants at birth, and found that weight maintenance during the second and third trimesters may be associated with better birth weight for gestational age. However, it is unclear how this can be achieved (e.g., through diet and exercise interventions) due to the observational design of the study.

Summary: Several studies have shown that most climate models underestimate cloud cover and overestimate cloud reflectivity, particularly for the tropical low-level clouds. Through analyzing the characteristics of low-level tropical marine clouds simulated by six climate models, it is found that these models still exhibit a bias of too few and too bright clouds, and the reflectivity is particularly overestimated when cloud cover is low.

Summary: The study found that changes in residential greenness were associated with preterm birth and birthweight. However, after controlling for time-invariant maternal characteristics, these associations were close to null. There was no relationship between greenness and birth outcomes among women who did not move but experienced changes in greenness within their residential location.

The results showed that uterocervical angle can significantly predict prolonged latent phase, and it has predictive value for the duration of labor in medically induced postterm pregnancies.

Summary: This study compared the maternal and neonatal risks of pregnancies following assisted reproductive treatment (ART) to spontaneously conceived pregnancies. The results showed that the overall maternofetal risks were higher after ART, with twin pregnancies being associated with more preterm deliveries and neonatal complications. The main influencing factor for maternal risks in ART pregnancies was found to be advanced maternal age, and actively avoiding twin pregnancies through single embryo transfer strategy can reduce risks.

Summary: Prolonged pregnancy is associated with reduced placental growth and functional changes, leading to increased risks of perinatal mortality, neonatal compromise, and birth by Caesarean section. These changes include reduced villous vascularity, oxidative stress, and cellular senescence, which are similar to fetal growth restriction and pre-eclampsia. Understanding the effects and risks of placental aging may guide clinicians in managing prolonged pregnancies.

Summary: A study in South Australia found that 1.6% of pregnancies of at least 20 weeks' gestation were conceived with the use of clomiphene citrate (CC), with 5.7% resulting in multiple births. This increases the proportion of women who achieved an ongoing pregnancy with medical assistance from 4.4% to 6%.

Summary: The study finds that current climate models overestimate the absorptivity of biomass burning aerosols, leading to inaccurate estimates of their direct radiative effects. By modifying the refractive index, size, and mixing state of the aerosols, the models can better match observations and improve accuracy in predicting aerosol effects on solar radiation.

Summary: This study demonstrates that oocyte cryopreservation is a feasible and efficient option for fertility preservation in cancer patients, based on the comparison with nononcological patients undergoing in vitro fertilization treatments. The results show that cancer patients who undergo oocyte cryopreservation have a high pregnancy rate and birth rate, indicating the effectiveness of this method in preserving fertility.

Summary: 'Small for Gestational Age' (SGA) refers to children born with low birth weight and/or short birth length, most of whom experience catch-up growth within 6 months of age. Treatment with recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) can help SGA children achieve normal adult height, although they may still face long-term consequences such as insulin resistance, abdominal fat accumulation, and metabolic disorders.

Summary: Enlargement of breasts among boys, known as gynecomastia, can be caused by changes in the androgen-estrogen ratio and the effects of various hormones. Factors such as puberty, obesity, drugs, and hypogonadism can contribute to gynecomastia. Other conditions including liver or renal failure, thyrotoxicosis, Klinefelter syndrome, tumors, and environmental pollutants can also cause gynecomastia. Medical management, including hormone therapy, is often effective in mild cases, while surgery may be necessary for severe and chronic gynecomastia.

Summary: A comprehensive NGS-based assay was developed and validated for detecting variants in the CYP21A2 gene in Indian patients with 21-OH CAH. The study identified biallelic mutations in the majority of cases, with the most common mutations being c.293-13A/C>G and 30 kb deletion. Orthogonal confirmation showed 100% concordance with NGS results and nine novel variants were identified.

Summary: This prospective cohort study aimed to investigate the impact of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) on the health-related quality of life (HRQL) of infants from NICU hospitalization to one year post-discharge. The study found that lower HRQL during NICU stay was associated with earlier gestational age, postnatal corticosteroid usage, outborn status, and gastrostomy tube placement. Lower HRQL at 3 and 12 months post-discharge was associated with readmissions, home oxygen use, parent-reported difficulty breathing, lower developmental scores, and not playing with other children. Most parents reported similar or improved HRQL after discharge, but parents of infants with respiratory symptoms experienced less improvement. Efforts to improve parent HRQL should focus on respiratory symptoms and social isolation.

Summary: This study aims to determine if children with elbow flexion contracture (EFC) caused by brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI) are more likely to develop shoulder contracture and undergo surgical treatment. A retrospective review was conducted on children under 2 years old with BPBI who presented to a single children's hospital. The results showed that patients with EFC had reduced shoulder range of motion and higher odds of shoulder contracture and surgical treatment. Prompt referral to a BPBI specialty clinic is recommended for evaluation and potential surgery.
