Summary: Synthetic endocrine disruptors such as diethylstilbestrol (DES) may affect neurodevelopment and psychiatric disorders in children exposed in utero, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Limited studies have reported severe depression, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and other psychiatric disorders in in-utero exposed children. Molecular studies suggest transgenerational effects and epigenetic changes on genes related to neurodevelopment.

Summary: Children with ASD exhibit dietary patterns characterized by high energy and fat intake, low intake of vegetables and fruits, and frequent consumption of processed foods with poor nutritional quality, such as beverages, sweets, snacks, and bakery products. Their meat and dairy intake is associated with increased consumption of fish, grains, and pasta. Nutrient adequacy comparisons show higher intake for energy, saturated fat, calcium, and vitamin C, but lower intake for iron, iodine, and B group vitamins in children with ASD compared to control children. This study emphasizes the importance of assessing dietary patterns and nutrient intake in children with ASD to address nutritional deficiencies and prevent potential health issues.

Summary: This study explores the clinical expression of sensory processing disorders (SPDs) and their correlation with behavioral aspects in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and isolated SPD. The results show that both ASD and SPD children exhibit sensory-related behavioral symptoms, with ASD children being more impaired in all areas. Significant correlations are found between sensory processing difficulties and repetitive behaviors, with a specific relationship between body awareness and ritualistic/sameness behavior in the SPD group. In conclusion, sensory-motor skills play a key role in the early diagnosis and intervention for children at risk of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Summary: The objective of this study is to assess the clinical effectiveness of auricular plaster therapy (APT) in treating sleep disorders in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). A total of 44 preschool children with sleep disorders and ASD will be included in a randomized controlled trial. The primary outcome is the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ), while secondary outcomes include the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC) and polysomnography (PSG) for sleep time, latency, duration, and structures. This study may provide evidence of the efficacy of APT and offer new alternatives for the treatment of sleep disorders in children with ASD.

Summary: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends autism spectrum disorder screening at 18- and 24-month well-child visits, but many low-income and minority children are not diagnosed until school age. Offering screening at preschool well-child visits may help reduce disparities and improve early diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

Summary: Aberrant megakaryopoiesis in MPNs is characterized by increased TPO levels and LacNAc expression in platelets, along with elevated B4GALT1 gene expression in megakaryocytes. This altered gene expression may lead to the production of platelets with aberrant galactosylation, promoting hepatic TPO synthesis. Targeting b4GalT1 could be a potential therapeutic strategy for MPNs.

Summary: Past research has focused on refining the broader autism phenotype (BAP) and its correlates, while neglecting how the BAP differs by socio-demographic characteristics, like age. This study found that total BAP scores were higher in younger adults and lower in older adults, particularly for pragmatic language difficulties. Aloofness also decreased with age, while rigidity did not show a significant association. These results suggest a decrease in BAP traits across the lifespan and have implications for clinical interventions.

Summary: This study found altered immune function and gut microbiota in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and the severity of autistic symptoms was higher in the high IFN-gamma group. Analysis of gut microbiota revealed overrepresentation of certain bacterial species and underrepresentation of others in the high IFN-gamma group. The results suggest that IFN-gamma level could serve as a potential biomarker to subtype ASD individuals and understanding the associations among immune function, gut microbiota, and metabolism abnormalities could lead to personalized biomedical treatment for ASD.

Summary: This study investigates the potential sex differences in language ability in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and explores whether these differences might be attributed to developmental imbalances in the anatomical structures of Broca and Wernicke areas. The findings reveal that males have better language abilities compared to females, particularly in terms of verbal development quotient (DQ) scores. Furthermore, there is a positive correlation between Broca thickness and verbal DQ scores.

Limited studies have focused on the response of marine triclosan and triclocarban loading to the pandemic. This study used cetaceans as bio-indicators and found increased concentrations of triclosan in certain dolphin species and fish after the pandemic, suggesting a profound impact on marine ecosystems.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the impact of frailty in middle-aged and older adults on life satisfaction under the simultaneous occurrence and correlation of physical disability and physical activity status. The results showed that physical disability and physical activity partially mediated the relationship between frailty status and life satisfaction. Frailty led to increased physical disability, which in turn affected physical activity and led to lower life satisfaction. Stratifications by age significantly increased the mediating effect of physical activity but did not reduce the mediating effect of physical disability.

Summary: This prospective cohort study aimed to investigate the impact of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) on the health-related quality of life (HRQL) of infants from NICU hospitalization to one year post-discharge. The study found that lower HRQL during NICU stay was associated with earlier gestational age, postnatal corticosteroid usage, outborn status, and gastrostomy tube placement. Lower HRQL at 3 and 12 months post-discharge was associated with readmissions, home oxygen use, parent-reported difficulty breathing, lower developmental scores, and not playing with other children. Most parents reported similar or improved HRQL after discharge, but parents of infants with respiratory symptoms experienced less improvement. Efforts to improve parent HRQL should focus on respiratory symptoms and social isolation.

A retrospective review was conducted on children under 2 years old with BPBI who presented to a single children's hospital. The results showed that patients with EFC had reduced shoulder range of motion and higher odds of shoulder contracture and surgical treatment.
